I disagree. Man u clearly stopped pressing after the first goal, which gave us space to play better.
“I read the United program and my colleague [Mourinho] said about Everton spending £140 million and so they need to go for the top four,” Koeman said.
“If there’s anybody in this room and outside and sees this as something realistic for us, please comment.
“Be realistic. I’m not happy how we started the season, but please be a bit realistic about Everton. We need time, but it’s difficult in football.”
Mourinho the optimist vs Ron the pessimist. With an attitude like that we will never be top four. If he had signed the right players and maybe kept Rom we could EASILY be top four. But he is negative and talks negativly about our players in the press and I don't see how we can get top four with that type of attitude. Not to mention his dull tactics, unbalanced formations and questionable substitutions.
That's right. Mourinho teams have always done that. Conserve energy & step up in bursts.
he doesn't if you go off his presser
he knows he's a way to go
but in the same token, so have we
and the board's failure to back him in two key areas hasn't helped
that being said, his tactics haven't helped either
but, for all the keyboard managers, his tactics yesterday weren't bad. We showed that.
It is more to do with confidence. He's said the instructions were there for the midfield to press up to the ball. The players not doing it is because the confidence is shot.
Once we managed to get into the game you could see that confidence coming back, and the failure is that we didn't take advantage of two really good chances that 9/10 times result in goals.

We're now two from the bottom and 17 from the top, the countdown must be on for Koeman to leave now, the conundrum is who would we replace him with?
...I don't get this 'board hasn't backed him' view. We won't have unlimited spend but there will be a sum of money available that all will be aware of. It appears the owner also provides monies from any outgoing transfers (Lukaku).
I assume you're talking about the acquisition of a striker. Koeman went on record a week or so ago saying he thought he had secured target no1 (presume Giroud) and then striker no2 (not sure who that is) but both failed to materialise. That might not be anybody's fault, Giroud in particular appeared to want to stay put at Arsenal. RK went on to say they started to work down their list but players were either unavailable or simply not worth the asking price.
That doesn't sound like the Board didn't back him. We are not Man City or PSG.
4 points from bottom. 4 points from 5th.
Sake
Why would confidence effect your ability to press ? I can understand it effecting your ability on the ball but i feel like pressing off the ball shouldnt really have any relation to ones confidence as it's not really a high pressure situation relative to being in possession. Not that I'm an expert on the matter or anything, just seems odd to me.
They backed him to an extent Eggs, and I'm happy for that. But they didn't back him fully. We did the classic Everton of 'not having the money' when we couldn't get a striker in.
And while I appreciate what Koeman said and that is also more than likely a possibility, I've been told something by someone I do feel is reliable that puts it in a different light.
Let's just put it this way. Koeman was told it was all in hand in the days leading up to deadline day.
He was then told differently and that we didn't have the available funds.
So, while yes, it's not one person's fault that Giroud decided to stay (as it did appear he was set to leave Arsenal), there's also something not quite sitting right with me.
All that being said, we can't keep bemoaning that.
A top class striker finishes those two sitters yesterday, but the thing is, both Rooney and Gylfi should have as well. We should have scored twice and have been 2-1 up, yet we found ourselves on the end of a 4-0 hammering.
Koeman has 4 games to save his job. He said as much himself.
