Ronald Koeman discussion

..I get the funding issue. I reckon there was a dependency on moving Barkley out to fund any more incoming. It can't be a coincidence that we agreed £35m for Barkley and bid the same fee (reported by Portuguese outlet Marca) for Raul Jimenez.

I don't have a problem with that, though. We'd spent up. In hindsight, Koeman might not have been so reliant on Giroud. He might have prioritised a forward as opposed to so many similar midfield types. Things clearly haven't gone perfectly but that's what happens in a window.

I think Koeman's frustration will be that he was promised he didn't have to rely on sales mate.

While I'm not mad at the club for wanting to stay within their means, Moshiri has publicly said before that funding wasn't an issue. So to not get one of the manager's key targets in for that reason doesn't sit right with me at all.

I don,t see how we suddenly start picking up results with a team that has been smashed every week and now in the bottom three.
Sunderland will fancy there chances and a draw looks like the outcome - a defeat will have the owners reaching for the bog roll.

No draws in the league cup mate so either way we will either be in the hat for the next round Thursday or not.

Another thing to point out is that having a target man is not the only way to attack and score goals. There are plenty of teams who don't play with a target man but rely on quick movement of the attackers.

1. Arsenal: Lacazette/Welbeck/Sanchez (Giroud is a target man but does not start).

2. RS: Firminho/Sturridge

3. Manc: Aguero/Jesus

4. Spurs: Kane/Son

5. Southampton: Long

6. Leicester: Vardy/Slimani

So there are different ways you can create chances up top. If we can't replace Lukaku then we may start to look for a different approach, one which has a striker with more pace and finishing ability than strength anf hold up play. While Sandro adapts, Koeman has the option to play Mirallas as a forward cos he has good finishing ability and good enough left foot too, with DCL as another option. Don't punt balls up then, play with width and pace.

Koeman's comments RE. the Top 4 is straight out of Moyes' book of dampening expectations.

The man has spent more than any other manager in Everton's history.

Even if he somehow manages to survive this season, he definitely won't be here next.

Only problem is, who can we get to realistically replace him?

Unsworth would be a risk, but I really think he could get a success. He knows what the fans will want and has been successful, albeit at U-23 level.

He only lost one key player though.

The definition of insanity is trying the same things over and over again but expecting to get different results

For that reason, I wouldn't argue that shouts for Koeman to go are premature at this stage, because regardless of personnel he's trying the same tactics over and over and they aren't working

Time to play the actual right back at right back

Time to play DCL up top with adequate support around him

Time to give the nippy Lookman a chance on the wings

Heck, if he wants to shoe-horn his buddy Martina into the side then play him strictly as a winger if needs be, with a proper back four behind. That might actually work

We're weak at the back, have no width or pace and the main striker is constantly isolated

He's not addressed any of these issues, and he has players on hand who could possibly address them, but they either aren't getting in the team or are being set up to fail if they do

And if he keeps on as he is, then I don't see how it's unreasonable to lobby for a change

All these rumours about Koemans private life are pathetic and without a single shred of evidence to back them up. If you want him out then stick to football facts as your sticks to beat him with (god knows youve got enough to work wity right now!), just try not to turn this into Coronation Street FFS.
Is right lad. In football terms, the countdown has begun.

Was it dampening expectations or did he react to questions about Mourinho's pre-game notes? I understand him saying that now after a couple of bad results is like waving a red flag infront of a bull, but let's be honest here, top 4 was never a realistic target.

You want unproven Unsworth to replace Koeman because he ''knows what the fans want''. What does that even mean? Knowing what fans want and being able to achieve those things are entirely different things. You don't think Koeman knows what the fans want?

Whether it is realistic or not, it should always be the target for a club like us.

No, I really don't think Koeman knows what the fans want.

..I don't think it's so much about the defeats, it's more about the manner of the defeats. We all accept a tough start and difficult run of fixtures but folk aren't daft, supporters want to see something hopeful to cling on to and there's been very little of that.

Koeman has a record of very poor runs of form, I'm hoping we can now pick up. I am of a view that the team/squad has undertaken a remarkable transformation and it will still take a number of windows to plug the gaps. Saying that, this is Koeman's team and I think @Mikey_Fitzgerald opinion that he should be held to account is perfectly reasonable.

Koeman has to turn things around with positive results or it might be Moshiri's turn to be ruthless.

Top 4 absolutely should be a realistic target though. Not an expectation of course, but it is definitely realistic for us to challenge for that position. It's only 3 years since we last did it, and since then Leicester have won the league and Koeman's own Southampton side have missed out on the CL places by just 3 points. I don't know why people insist on putting the top 6 on such ridiculous pedestals, teams can (and do) compete with them
