Ronald Koeman discussion

My concern with Gylfi and the new team is that it's a very different style. We were set up and trying to (Albeit not well yet - but we were showing flashes in the last few years) play a pacey, counter attacking, swift style of play, and we had fast players. The lovely Stones-Barkley-Lukaku set up with Mirallas, Baines, Coleman, in theory, and with all of them at their best, was an exciting team for a fast aggressive style.

Now all of our players are more slow paced, 'unlocking defences with neat passes', or 'chess strategy' style players, and I don't think we're sorted about how we're supposed to play yet.

totally different set up, and the coaching and tactics are obviously not catching up

true.

Coleman and Bolasie are huge misses for this side.

They both provide pace and width but also the guile and experience needed in the Prem as well.

We looked brilliant at points last year when we had Ross as an inside forward, as he had Coleman acting as the winger from a right-back position.

I think the aim is to have a similar style as that, but it'll take time to click.

Next time you go to Goodison ask Ron to sign his autograph on this , and when he asks why/
tell him he has been signing it all season!lol

Flat footed Klassen are you seeing a different player than me?
he Rooney Sig fall over each other when they play!

I must be.

I watched plenty of him for Ajax and he hasn't disappointed me yet at Everton.

It'll take him time but he's a hard runner, he presses from the front (look at our goals in the EL qualifiers) and has still created more chances for us this season than anyone else!

On your second point - the bit in bold - I agree entirely. They all can't play together, unfortunately, or at least not in a front unit.

I'd like to see Gylfi rested Wednesday, and Rooney to start up top with Klaassen behind, with two wingers (or a winger and DCL) offering the support.

That's very similar to how we set-up at home against Hajduk, which was our most complete performance by far this season, as the team has balance.

The person who claimed it, I do trust. I'm not lying.

But yeh, we did seem to put our eggs in the Giroud basket. To not have another 2 to 3 players lined up that were 'correct' or of the required quality is still a huge failing on the part of the people who get the deals done.

And yes we did sign strikers, I've said as much myself. But ultimately none of them are currently filling that role adequately - so many times yesterday we got into decent crossing positions, but there was nobody in the box...

Agreed.

So why not try something different instead of setting up with a system dependent on a player that we do not have?

It seems so clear and obvious ...and yet we can only hope.

i think we should restyle Ross as a Centre Forward

Don't agree. I thought we played well for most of that game yesterday and should have been level before Williams error lead to the game effectively ending in the 83rd minute.

It was certainly an improvement on what we've served up in the last few weeks.
15 minutes from the end I was chatting with Utd fans saying it could be a draw...they were worried we might nick an equaliser. 10 minutes later it was rout...we didn't play badly at all, partly because they let us, bit we were much improved from the previous 2 weeks. Williams error killed it as you say.

1 win in a hundred against the top 6? Mate we battered city last season and also beat arsenal. The records bad enough without loony exaggerations

I did say away wins.

Man Utd - 2 since 92 (25)
Chelsea - 1 since 94 (23)
Lpool - 1 since 99 (18)
Arsenal - 1 since 97 (20)
Man City - 1 since 2010 (7)
Spurs - 1 since 2008 (9)

Total 7/109 = 6.42%

Not quite 1% but working hard at getting there.

I think we looked awful again.

Yeah we had some of the ball but there was still no attacking threat and some of our passing was horrible.

Yeah I know what you mean. But by and large it was a huge improvement. I thought Rooney`s poor passes were the most noticible to be honest
Lack of threat goes back to you know what ....
Hope January we splash cash on a couple strikers but not holding my breath on that one
