Ronald Koeman discussion

...not sure anybody mentioned, but when I saw the players in the tunnel before the game I said to Mrs Eggs, "something's not right there". Little or no talk, no encouragement, no looks of determination, no smiles, no camaraderie.

We know of the spat with Mirallas, we've heard rumours of a fall out with Lookman. It's like any place of work, an unhappy camp is an ineffective camp. No signs of 'all pulling together' even if results are poor. The atmosphere within the club is down to whoever is in charge. If Koeman is cold, distant and dispassionate the players will feel isolated.

Troubled times if it's as bad as it appears.

Not remember when @Adam-GOTTV interviewed Carra and he said it's even quiet in tunnels on Derby day? Maybe it's just an Everton thing now?

..but there was nothing, no encouragement, no banter, no chatter. If it is an Everton thing now I suggest there's something amiss. Rooney wasn't with them so perhaps that was a factor but it normally reflects they are going out rudderless.

I'm not wondering, I can tell you now. Brighton are one of the weaker prem teams but he will still start with 2 defensive mids, and he will play at least 1 cm on the wings, possibly 2.
Seeing Brighton play yesterday, there is zero chance we can cope with their attacking style of play.
After "stewing" as the commentators describe it, over the international break, I know he will fluffy his lines again.

Do the board think it's all Koeman tho?

With Martinez, he didn't have a Director of Football as a buffer so it was all down to him.

Walsh really hasn't hit the heights with his CV so far even if it is early days but Koeman was quoted in saying we want a Centre Back and Striker and Walsh never delivered.

Koeman playing DCL and Niasse at home may have been a play at Walsh to say, "Without Rooney this is what we have."

..but Koeman has explained what went on with the striker situation and absolutely no blame can be assigned to Walsh.

Koeman is on record as saying they thought we had acquired target no1 (assume Giroud) and target no2 but both failed to materialise. They then worked their way 'down the list' (suggesting Walsh had furnished a number of targets) but players were either unavailable or not worth the money being asked.

I think it's reasonable to challenge Walsh's role in bringing in so many similar types of players, but nobody complained when they were acquired. Indeed folk on here were genuinely excited at the purchases, regular references to 'heads falling off on RAWK' etc.

The lack of a striker is now regularly regurgitated and perhaps the lesson learned is assuming Giroud would sign and waiting too long for it to happen.

If that was "putting it all on the line" for him, I'd hate to see what downing their tools is like. Would they just score own goals repeatedly?

Im getting worried now. He's talking and acting like Martinez, when the walls were closing in on him.

The worrying thing though Eggs is that having Giroud wouldn't change a thing.

We would still be slow , have no width , have too many no.10's and unable to defend.

I thought the same when the camera panned the bench early in the second half. Everyone looked glum, with a look on the face that said 'I hope he doesn't put me on'. We look a completely rudderless outfit at the moment, and I don't see Koemans abrasive style galvanising them to react positively.

My problem with all this is we are consistently comparing ourselves to Spurs - in 2013 they sold Bale and went and bought a ton of players. Then they needed time for the players to gel and only in the last couple of seasons did we apparently see a cohesive Spurs side. So Bale was sold in September 13. They then bought a raft of players, including the likes of Eriksen who didn't gel. They then sacked Villas-Boas and got Pochettino in May 14. They had two key youth players come thru in Alli and Kane which obviously drastically helped. In the season 13-14 they finished 6th (when we finished 5th with Rom our leading goal scorer). They have never finished lower than that since - in fact you have to go back 10 years to see them finish 11th.

The point is, do we really think this is a case of getting players to gel? With them not gelling are we a side comparable to that of 2013?

For me I think we are miles and miles away from either our side of 2013 or the Spurs side of 2013. Let alone being able to improve. My worry is that making this comparison (and the inevitable, it'll get better) is masking the very real problem of the lack of a goalscorer, poor defense and confusion in the midfield.

I reckon he would have helped. Yeah he’s not even remotely quick but he wohld give a focal point up front. And hopefully would have meant the insane no.10 thing would have happened less or not at all.

By having a striker the opposition would actually have to do something about it would alter the way they set up against us. Meaning the defence would come under less pressure.

Sadly now they are under so much pressure for basically 90 minutes and can’t cope.
