Ronald Koeman discussion

Imo that's a statistic more down to the number of bodies behind the ball than drilling that back four + GK. No one can tell me that apart from Williams, who is a bona fide defender, the rest of the defensive unit are better than they were last season. Coleman? No, still gets under the ball and loses focus on position. Jagielka? No, lost his man for the City and West Brom goals and giving daft pens away.
Dave do you not see the irony that of the 3 defenders you mention, the one you praise is the one Koeman brought in? Perhaps given enough time Koeman can make additional changes to your liking.

Tell you what dave look at our current position in the league and the number of goals we concede. If the facts do not reflect reality then no wonder you worship Martinez who is inept in setting up defence. The Jagielka and Coleman you mentioned were the same who defended well under the Moyes' era. It was the tactics of Martinez and setting up which were the problem.

Comical mate. Anything relevant to post?

Comical Ali actually

Just a general observation that you have again taken the opportunity to have a dig at Koeman (who currently has us 6th with the 2nd best defensive record overall and best defensive record on set pieces if you had missed that - our defensive record was nothing like that over the last two seasons, in case you missed that bit too. Last season was the worst at home in our entire history by the way, not sure if you noticed)

Some might say you have a bit of an agenda here, I've given you the benefit of the doubt for a while as now and again, hidden away amongst the drivel/WUM chat/bile/bitterness, there is the odd good point

It's all a little bit too blatant now though

He's not coming back you know? Like ever

It's nonsense. We conceded 39 goals in his first season. The whole group lost its way. Anyway, there is a thread for that debate elsewhere.

On your substantial point: we're conceding less, of course. I'm stating it's not for the reasons being suggested today at that press conference that's all.

Other managers have bought him before...
Again moving the goalposts. This is a thread about our manager. Our manager clearly upgraded the central defense by bringing in Williams. I would gladly welcome additional upgrades no matter who bought them prior.

Don't complain about lack of quality players then poo poo the fact that two of our best players so far this season have been the ones Koeman brought in.

And next thing is you'll move the goalposts again and complain about lack of youth.

IMO they dont initially do that though. They try and play tho=rough us then knock one into the box when they get a second bite of the cherry...and we're generally not ready for it.

Sometimes you have to give a bit of credit to the opposition, Benteke had no right to score with that header from that far out for example. It was a dinked ball aimed at the smaller (than Benteke) full back in Coleman and there was only one winner. Giving the ball away or over-committing players when leading infuriates me far more to concede from.

Tbf, I blamed that GK more than Coleman (in fact Coleman should never have been marking him...which underlines the poor organisation still at times).

First you said Martinez is a good manager then you said he is not inept in setting up defence. I am out. Why did you keep finding excuse and not mentioning how many goals the team conceded in his 2nd and 3rd season?

Sorry I trust the majority of fans do not agree with you on that. I watch Everton play everytime this season I can see the defence is being fixed, purely down to Koeman.

I don't see clear improvements so far despite what the stats and league position would say. I think by season end we will have seen it, that at least we will have been more solid....but just going on the actual football I've watched from us so far I still see a fairly weak willed team that blows hot and cold.

Also, annoying as some of his schtick is on other topics, I am enjoying watching Davek wind up the over the top posters still dancing on the last bosses grave. All handbags and little integrity in this little battle.
