Ronald Koeman discussion

Would like to know what @davek and @BlueToff think?

I don't mind it.

I think you can take the quote a few ways.

It's either Koeman admitting that Lukaku will move on at some point, or him saying Rom is too big for Everton, depending on how you want to interpret it.

Personally, I see it as the first one.

It's nothing new to say that he will leave at some point if he continues this form. He's not going to be here for ever. Koeman is actually building Rom up ('he could play for Barca'), but at the same time saying he needs to improve.

While I don't like to hear it, it's the reality of our current situation. I'd rather our manager be acknowledging that than burying their head in the sand and trying to tell us that Rom will be here forever.

KOEMAN TELLS LUKAKU TO LEAVE EVERTON says the Express. A very misleading headline and not exactly true when you read the whole interview. He's saying if he fulfills his potential he should be ending his career at a club like Barcelona... if he spends his entire career at Everton he's not reached his potential. He isn't wrong i guess but the way he's worded it makes us look absolutely pathetic.
Papers don't need help selling our star players especially from our incredibly well paid manager.

We all know Rom will be off but strange how you have Moshiri talking us up whilst at the same time the manager talking us down.

Effectively the difference between us and the Kopites, atleast everyone associated with that lot from manager to ex players talk as if Liverpool is the biggest club in the world, whilst I wouldn't be as idiotic as that lot and suggest we are it's hard to see how we are to compete with the top 6 with this plucky attitude.

agree with this - strange one really. Even if it is true he needs to leave. Surely we should be trying to attract better players as opposed to saying they are too good for us

Perhaps.

I just don't understand why, in November, he needs to be talking about it at all.

It was probably a little public motivation- - manager to player. "You wanna leave for a bigger club, don't aim for Chelsea or United.... you're good enough for Barca" like the RS with Suarez, give us your best season and get the elite interested. I also accept that there is a language barrier (assuming the interview wasn't in some Dutch paper) but still!! Use your head Ronny

I think he was asked a question by a Belgian newspaper and answered it.

Many people were sick of RM's guff. You can probably imagine that if Martinez was in the same situation it would be 'phenomenal' etc.

And while I don't mind that approach, I don't mind RK's honesty either.

I don't think it'll have any effect, tbh.

"I think he can emulate Patrick Kluivert, who also rose to prominence at a young age and enjoyed a fantastic career," Koeman told HLN. "He eventually played for Barcelona and I can see Lukaku doing the same.

"Everton should normally not be the end for him. Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career. He has the potential to play for a bigger club than Everton, but nobody knows what will happen after this season. We have a good relationship."

ffs koeman
Can someone tell this plant pot to stfu?

Nothing wrong with what koeman said about rom.

Or do people keep forgetting we are a sell to buy club who struggle to beat the likes of burnley and Bournemouth?

Compared to one of the top clubs in world football, who play at the highest level on a yearly basis?

Is there anything more obvious than Koeman touting Lukaku around for a summer sale to fund his spending?

Instead of doing that he should be tying him down to a contract...and banging on Moshiri's door for the cash that was promised for players.

"Romelu will not have made the most of his career if he plays for Everton for the remainder of his career...He has the potential to play for a bigger club than Everton".

He really get's us, doesn't he?

I wonder if the Echo hacks will get their tongues out of his arse for a second to write that up and question it?

what is actually wrong with that?

not exactly going places right now are we, or have been for a long time now. Same as the whole rooney thing was held against him for leaving us, failing to remember our lowest points total in 100 years the season he left.

Think if we stop being so pig headed and singing grand old team to ourselves every day to make us feel better, would a 25 goals a season striker in stoke be seen as too big for the club? Or west brom? Or southampton? Or west ham (payet right now)?

To be perfectly honest, i don't want to be spoon fed niceties by the club, manager, owner or captain. I want to be told how it is, and not be led down a path. If it means Koeman talking up a sale of rom then fine,k we all know he is leaving at some point anyway.

He was asked a question and answered it truthfully ,it's slightly dispiriting but it's where we are and have been for 30odd years. What doesn't he 'get'? , that we like having our egos massaged and being told we are a phenomenal club a giant on the world stage when we clearly are not.
We all know that Lukaku will move on to better things anyway, but at least he will have given us more time and goals than 'superblue' Rooney when he departs.
