Ronald Koeman discussion

I think the comments regarding Lukaku are disappointing from Koeman. It's poor form.

I have praised RK previously for his honesty but what he says in any given situation needs to be judged on its own merits. It should not be, and does not need to be, a complete contrast with Martinez' fake positivity each and every time.

I feel that comments like this just serve as a reminder of our place in the pecking order. You expect that from a kopite tabloid hack, not the incumbent manager.

There is a time and place for a more tactful approach from the manager, it does not require brutal honesty each time. The other lot are the biggest club in the world even when they finish 8th. It's ok for RK to big us up a little, even when it's only justified for keeping up appearances.

totally in sync with anyone who is a proper evertonian and finds Koeman's stance an insult. eff off back to Southampton where you belong.

I was totally behind him before this. find him a loser now. so much for his tweets and 'proud to be manager of everton'' LIES

Martinez let himself down in the last two seasons but he was never like this.

I know mate I wish Koeman was a bit more like Martinez, he could learn a lot from him couldn't he mate.

We all know Rom will be off but strange how you have Moshiri talking us up whilst at the same time the manager talking us down.

Effectively the difference between us and the Kopites, atleast everyone associated with that lot from manager to ex players talk as if Liverpool is the biggest club in the world, whilst I wouldn't be as idiotic as that lot and suggest we are it's hard to see how we are to compete with the top 6 with this plucky attitude.

Yeah it's what separates us, for the better. That lot need their ego's massaging all day every day, it's why they support them.

I don't need our mangers coming out with BS like Martinez did. Everton are not at the level currently that will see Lukaku win trophies or get CL football and therefore I have no issue with what Koeman has said. Not sure he needed to come out with it at the current time, but they are often put on the spot so have to give an answer.

The RS have still not won a league title for 26 years either, despite how great they think they are.

Nothing wrong with what koeman said about rom.

Or do people keep forgetting we are a sell to buy club who struggle to beat the likes of burnley and Bournemouth?

Compared to one of the top clubs in world football, who play at the highest level on a yearly basis?

Sorry mate, I can't defend those comments

There is no justification in my opinion

How on Earth are we supposed to attract players when the manager is talking the club down in such a manner?

He needs to apologise

If Moyes or Martinez had said something similar, they'd've been eviscerated

Poor this. I like RKs honesty, in comparison to the previous incumbent, and many of us would accept that Rom will likely be off next summer, but RK needs to manage this type of question better. It's poor strategy in terms of attracting players in future windows. Nothing to be gained for Everton in this type of comment, other than in the short term maybe an ego boost to Rom.

Poor interview, which is now bound to be further spun, in line with the express - "RK tells Rom to leave", which while not strictly what he said, is inevitably how some papers will report this. Poor strategy. Very naive.

Not that i'm excusing Koeman for what he's said but it's just the exact opposite of what Martinez would have said. Both utterly handled these these wrong but at other ends of the spectrum. Martinez went over the top. Koeman has gone too far the other way really.

Essentially what Koeman has said is totally correct. It just didn't need to have been said.
