Interesting that Moshiri is referred to as Mr Moshiri by most posters. Its like the Lord of the Manor and his grateful serfs. Think he is great for the club by the way but we are all equals and not the sum of our bank accounts. That is a combination of ability and chance or sometimes just luck.

I guess were like loyal subjects paying due respect to the new lord of the manor. If Moshiri Farhad Moshiri or Mr Moshiri (whatever your having yourself) helps get this club back where it belongs then i think no one will be complaining.

I prefer waiting till our and other clubs transferbusiness has been done before giving a definite opinion on that. As I look at it now, 8th place doesn't have to be such a bad result. See what the outgoings and incomings gonna be.

No matter the 2 last seasons under Martinez, we still have a pretty decent squad to start with. Now if Stones and Lukaku are going to leave. Not so sure on that myself, as there won't be that many clubs prepared/able to match our (supposedly) £65m asking price, we'll have to take a step back before moving forward.

Imo the top 4 will become more of a top 7 or 8 in the coming years with Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham and us being the most likely to make that step up. If we finish eight in the end but Koeman lays a solid foundation to build upon than it wouldn't bother me too much.

As I said though, I'd prefer to wait till after the transfer window to really form an opinion on what league finish would be acceptable.
but surely, you are not paying him as one of the world highest paid managers, with potentially huge transfer kitty to finish 7th?

The question I will always ask with koeman as i would have with emery is where would either manager be now if they hadn't had to sell players?

People easily forget thst koeman has had to replace players every year, so quite difficult to build on something when you lose members of your team. You have to find replacements, integrate them, hope they hit the ground running and do it all consistently over 38 games.

How about we give him 3 years of stability, investment and control over the team and see if he can achieve something then?

Of course not, but it's all about the long term project. As I said, I'd prefer to wait and see what we and other clubs do this summer. We're certainly not the only club that's gonna spend big. To expect Koeman to simply finish 4th or 5th in his first season in a league with clubs like Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal, plus comparable clubs as Liverpool and Spurs is a bit too arrogant for me. Having a good summer in the transfermarket and a bit of luck in the League (everyone needs that) we could surprise a fair few teams imo.

Koeman will know that top 4 in the next 2-3 years is his target.

The squad needs a rebuild at the moment and some of our bigger names may depart in the summer.

There is also a need for a change in the mentality of a lot of players to prevent a hangover from the Martinez years.

6th or 7th wouldn't be a disaster next season.

I think next season is about consolidation and getting some semblance of performance from a team that was criminally out of fitness and form. The current squad is much better than our form last year suggests.

I would expect an improvement from last year just from that.

You then have to factor other teams improving which probably counteracts any improvement from the current squad, particularly as we have a new manager which will take some time to get going.

What we do in the transfer market will be interesting, especially relative to clubs around us. I think people are getting a little carried away in their expectation of what £100m will get you but that is understandable given how much we have struggled financially. What the money does give you is genuine ability to improve the squad.

One thing I would like to mention is the assumption from outside Everton that this is just another middle eastern investor who wants to try and force his way to the top by throwing money everywhere.

This is not what is happening at all. First, he's been a large shareholder in Arsenal for many years. He understands football and the premier league. We are looking at bringing in top business expertise from outside. David Dein is rumoured to be on his way as well as the current CFO of BP. All this is to improve the business & commercial strategy of the club. The key goal is a new stadium and a site has apparently already been identified.

On the playing side of things, there are obvious problems but this was linked to the former management team and their philosophy rather than quality of players. We are looking at improving the infrastructure of the playing/coaching staff, the first step of which was to replace the manager. Expect a DOF to follow. Our youth set up is already excellent and we have a number of great prospects pushing for the first team. Some of which have been developed internally and some of which have been bought at a young age (the youth team has its own transfer budget). Expect to see names like Galloway, Holgate, Kenny, Pennington, Ledson, Dowell and Davies make the step over the next couple of years (some have already appeared in the first team). That is not an exhaustive list by the way.

This really is a long term project and not an attempt to buy our way to the top. The transfer budget is just a way to help facilitate this.

It may all fall flat of its face but as a fan for 35 years, I cant help but be optimistic about the future.

To answer your question, I think 8th and a cup run is the minimum we should expect. But I think we might surprise a few and do better next season.

Fantastic post that mate and I agree with every word of it!

3 rys seems fair unless it all turns to custard, like with Martinez

Koeman also played in the El Classico many times with Barcelona. He has also experienced De Klassieker the Ajax and Feyenoord grudge match on both sides of the divide as both player and manager.I think our annual squabbles with our near and dear neighbors will seem like a piece of piss in comparison to the hatred that the clubs in those other two grudge matches have for each other.
