Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

Been talking to a (sensible) Saints fan this morning.

He's not overly arsed that Koeman is leaving to double his wage. Who wouldn't do that? He's more annoyed that Koeman seemed to laugh off suggestions that he'd leave and said he'd see out his contract.

Also, says that Koeman will bring out the best of all our players and get us back up the table. But did say that the youth thing may be a problem. Apparently not keen on bringing youth players through. Soz @Mikey_Fitzgerald .

Also reckons that Moyes, Howe, and AVB are on their shortlist! And that if they get Moyes or AVB he won't be renewing his season ticket.

LOL

I hope they don't get Moyes as I think he'd do a good job there.
They (Soton fans) have a very inflated view of where their club lies in the grand scheme of things.
Two decent seasons does not make them 'massive'.
I work with lots of them and can't help but just smirk at some of their recent comments about Everton.
Everton don't need to try to justify their status in the game..we'll just take your manager and leave it at that.

Absolutely mental that at the time i remember reading an article that he was in the top 7 highest paid managers in the world at that point.

Top 7.... top. 7. FFS

He was paid £2.9m a year at Everton, and £5m a year at MU, when he was 7th best paid in the world.

Given this £2.9m a year got us an average 6th place PL finish it was worth every penny. Finishing 11th rather than 6th cost us around £10m in prize money.

I'm holding the smirks in at the moment. But they are ready to be unleashed.

I don't get why they think they're so big. I really don't.

Someone said earlier Moyes was on £4m here. I have no idea.

Sure Moyes was on a lot more then that when he was with us?

EDIT: last report i can find says he was on £3.25m

(2008-2013) – Signed a 5 year deal to remain at everton back in 2008, and contract was worth £16.5 Million over 5 years period.

It seems to be the mentality down here..had it with Pompey when they bought a few seasons in the limelight
They automatically assume they are among the elite and therefore shout it from the rafters
...then they head back where they belong

Pretty consistant with what I'm hearing from most Saints fans really

Not worried about the yoof thing. No way in the world is he turning his nose up at the likes of Tom Davies.

Gave Sneijder, Heitinga & De Jong there debuts at Ajax
Gave Van Der Vaart, Pienaar and Zlatan important roles after only just played a handful of 1st team games.
Brought plenty of kids through at Feyernoord
Taggart & Ward Prowse got some game time under Koeman and he also went on record to say there was abit of a lul in the youth intake at southampton hence why not many more were coming through.
As you say pal, he aint turning his nose up to Tom Davies & Kieran Dowell

5M compensation is quite a large sum for a manager, given that he is in the final year of his contract.
Hopefully we can get back most of it when he goes to another club with a better "package".

I am not expecting him to win anything with us if he signs on to be our next manager.
His bar is probably top 6 with a run on a few domestic cups.
For me, he is the set up man for the next manager who will take us to the next level.
We are basically spending 100m+ to get us back to where we were under Moyes.
Frankly speaking the only excitement I can see this summer will be transfer window in,s and outs.
Still the postives are that we have got rid of that old regime and put someone in at the top who is the real deal.
