Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

If we do go for Koeman and he comes to us he will have been asking for reassurances that he doesn't have to sell anybody which is one of the two reasons he hasn't signed another contract with them. The other reason being he's after a pay rise.

I think it is certain we don't "have" to sell anyone.

That era was firmly led to rest by Roberto last summer when Chelsea wanted Stones.

It is whether certain players, two in particular, want to stay here or if they will agitate for a move.

I think he will be told if the players do want a move it is foolish holding on to them but that he will have all the proceeds from the sales plus whatever is to be made available to him.

Koeman or de Boer I'd be happy with either, or Mourinho or Pellegrini, tbh we're pretty lucky there are so many decent managerial candidates available at this time.

Not a fan in the country other than our own think we have any hope in signing koeman, just look at the comments on every article about it for proof.

Not sure if Pellegrini
Aye.

We should be looking at the likes of Mourinho and Pellegrini, not Koeman and De Boer. But we're in a scenario where we haven't shown ambition on and off the pitch for a long time, so it's difficult to attract top drawer candidates on that basis.

At least the shortlist is better than Martinez, Stubbs and Neville this time around.

Not sure if Pellegrini is the answer. He won the title with Mancini's team. Some of his buys have been poor (eg the defenders he bought). A city fan I know glad he is going. RS through the title away rather than city won it that year under Pellegrini

It was brought up by @bluestevon a few pages back. It's pretty damning but it's a few years ago. The concern for me is will he be able to handle the pressure and expectations of a big budget at Everton.

It was 8 years ago, and he still won the Copa while in charge at a time that Valencia were in a bit of a shambles.

The consensus is that Southampton are bigger and better than us.

That's roberto's legacy....

Bigger - definitely not. Most sensible people (so not most of the fans who comment on newspaper sites) know that.

Better - well if we define better by two consecutive league finishes in the top 7 (most likely) and finishing above us twice in a row on a smaller budget with a less talented squad after having to sell 6 of their key players over the past two seasons, then yes, they're better.

You can see why they might have that opinion though surely?

They aren't arsed that we have a better history etc and neither am I. we are dealing in the here and now and Southampton have just had 2 very good seasons and finished at least 15 points above us in both.

They have every bit as good of an academy as we do seemingly. Their manager is superior to what ours was.

The only thing they are not factoring in is the fact that we have a new billionaire owner, i think because it has very low key and Moshri actually hasn't done anything yet, it has gone relatively under the radar.
