Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

He's got a decent pedigree, managed in several countries around Europe. I'm open to the idea though it would be slightly underwhelming on the whole. Certainly more appealing than De Boer though. At least we've had a chance to scope him out at first hand in the past two years and he's quite impressive.

However, his overall record is quite mixed - he's been sacked a few times, though that was earlier in his career (last time wads sacked from AZ in 2009), so give him the benefit of the doubt.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he managing Benfica when they beat the RS in the Champions League the year after they won it? Sounds good to me!

In an entirely unscientific poll conducted with the 4 lads in the office I can conclusively confirm that as far as Leeds, Man United & Man City fans are concerned Everton are a bigger club than Southampton and Southampton are "the best they can realistically epect" where "Everton could do a Spurs".

There you have it

A bit baffled that people would be happier with De Boer than Koeman. The latter has as good of a record in Holland as De Boer and crucially has actually proven himself in the Premier League.

I don't see any reason why a manager who is likely to guide Southampton to consecutive top 7 finishes would be seen as anything other than a really good appointment.

This must be about your 50th consecutive post I've agreed with, have you been hacked?

Same... I'm not feeling De Boer at all. I'd be very disappointed with that. Not even convinced it's much of a step up from Martinez
