Got to admit, I'd be happy with Koeman.

I like what he's done at Southampton, he's had to do a load of rebuilding with a lot of top quality players leaving. I feel like he'd have a similar job to do at Everton this summer with the likes of Lukaku leaving.

Not ever going to be the most popular choice, as it seems like a sideward step to many of our fanbase. It's unlikely that we'll ever attract Mourinho, and that all of this is a media stunt to pressurize United into sacking van Gaal.

Granted, he's not my first choice - I think he'd be a good manager going forward. He sets his sides up well, and given a bit of money it'd be interesting to see how he actually does.

Everyone has a right to disagree, but regardless of what happens we need to get behind the new manager.

Regarding his current situation at Southampton, I'm not sure how much it would cost for us to buy out his contract.

Does it really matter? Probably not, a good manager is always going to be worth whatever sum is required to attract.

Unity is key among the support, and I think that Koeman will be a popular choice for the majority of supporters.

That being said, this could potentially backfire - people seem to expect and want more.

Changes aplenty at Goodison Park, and with that comes a change in mentality.

Having seen our club languish for all of my adult life, one would hope that the glory days are back.

Most of us on this forum know this pain.

Anyway, I'm rambling on a bit.

The one thing none of us know is how much of an influence Sammy Lee is to Koeman. If we go for Koeman we can't have Sammy Lee joining him for the same reason we wouldn't want Rafael or Rodgers as manager even though they are both in the betting for the job. Think it may be a smokescreen saying we want Koeman while we go for our main target whoever that may be.

Surely he isn't leaving when he's signing players up to contact extensions?

... sign here you say, Mr Moyes?

Koeman only has a year left on his contract - i highly doubt it would be massive amounts to get him out of it, should that be the route we go down.

I don't have the answer I just agree with c3po or whatever he's called when he couldn't understand why Koeman was such a popular choice........if Southampton to Everton is a sideways move I'd say Koeman for Martinez is also.........Oh and Sammy Lee no thanks

Southampton to Everton - looking at it objectively from another fan's p.o.v - is currently a sideways move.

However, it would be a good move for Everton as their manager is better than the one we just got rid of...

Not according to the esk though

yep, it went sour.

However, he obviously learned from that. He had a tough patch at AZ but then went to Feyenoord and used that experience to better himself as a manager, and he's made the most of his opportunity with Southampton.

The only way you improve is by learning from mistakes. In the 7 or 8 years since he left Valencia, he's done that...
That's fair comment, but we'll have to see how he deals with additional pressure and expectation that will come from managing a bigger club, I've still got major reservations to be honest. If he gets appointed I hope you're right and I'm wrong.

My concern with Koeman is how crap he's been at some of his previous clubs

Perhaps it shows he's learned from that though? Southampton started the season terribly but he's managed to adapt and change things so that they have had the 2nd best form in the league since Christmas.

Almost every manager who's managed for a while will have had blips. It's about adapting and self evaluating. He seems to be tactically flexible, especially compared to Roberto who could manage for 100 years and never accept what he's doing isn't working!
