Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

after 12 hours the voting has settled into a pattern:

over 40% would be happy with Koeman
around 25% would not
the remaining third are a bit meh and still dreaming of José

If Mourinho is confirmed as Utd manager then I'd imagine those votes would sway more into the yes camp.

Just had a conversation with a Southampton fan on Twitter, who told me any neutral would say Southampton to Everton is a sidestep at best. And then went onto tell me Southampton have a better squad, better facilities and more money.

Either I've lost the plot or I've woken up on another planet.

I know loads of neutrals. Not one has said to me that Koeman would be an unrealistic target, or that they would be surprised if he moved to us.

So just to confirm, he finishes around the top 6 with Southampton, a nothing club with an inability to say no to offers for star players and a negative net spend of £22m and comes to Everton, a club with far greater financial resources with which to build a larger and higher quality squad than he could do at Southampton and we expect his performance to be the same?

Firstly, they haven't finished top 6, are currently in 7th and may yet drop down to 8th. Last season they also weren't top 6.

Secondly, Moshiri still hasn't done anything with his own money to suggest we have "far greater resources". If Soton do finish 6th after the weekend, they'll bag Europe which will net them more TV deals next season. Financially, they are quite healthy themselves.

Thirdly, we've finished bottom-half these last two seasons. Returning us to top 6 is the realistic and reasonable aim for a manager like Koeman.

Hate to say it, but objectively speaking I think they're right.

We are the bigger club, no doubt about it.

But at the moment they've got a good squad, a brilliant academy and a good set up and have established themselves now as a top 7/8 club.

Still, if we can offer Koeman assurances on transfer fees and wages that they can't, then we could snag him.

everything we have except the last part but thats due to martinez ineptitude the last 2 yrs.

I don't think we're a 'big club' anymore - I've always said that. We haven't been for my lifetime. But I at least thought we were bigger than Southampton:blush::blush::blush:
Cmoon. Dont fall for that crap they sport. They have nothing on us. We are sleeping giant soon to be awakened. They're nothing but well dressed midgets with I pads compared to Everton.

Firstly, yes, that's why I said "around the top 6".

Secondly, getting Koeman to leave a safe job at Southampton would be proving pretty much beyond doubt that we have far greater resources.

Thirdly, Leicester finished 14th last season, Spurs 5th and West Ham below ourselves. As we already have a decent squad, if we were to tempt Koeman, it needn't take a huge rebuilding job or much time to get up towards the top 4 with the money we'd have to spend.

In my eyes we are a much bigger club in status and name. Pochettino left them for spurs and we are in the same group as spurs.

Who are Southampton anyway? They were in the championship 4 years ago. So are we now judging our clubs over the last 4 years only.

Our club was creating history when Koeman was creating history as a player. He would have heard of us when he was a young man, Koeman only knew of Southampton FC a few years ago.

"around the top 6" meaning 7th or 8th isn't top 6 at all.

It looks like you expect Koeman to be competing for top 4 from the off...and that's cool. 4th place is also top 6. I'd say that's a bit too demanding to expect top 4 from him during his first season.

I mean, imagine if he didn't quite manage it? Instead he gets us 5th? Would you be caling for his head then? Not a sensible road that...
