Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

Every fan thinks their club is bigger than what it is, the Saint fans are just as delusional as us but on a different scale. Our board maybe interested in Koeman because finishing in the top 10 with the Saints is deemed a frigging SUCCESS. Finishing in the top 10 for Everton is default. That there is why Everton is a bigger club. But I'm also tired of this "bigger club" nonsense. It really means NOTHING these days, just look at Newcastle and Villa.

I don't think we're a 'big club' anymore - I've always said that. We haven't been for my lifetime. But I at least thought we were bigger than Southampton:blush::blush::blush:
Everton are a sleeping giant. It's not just the trophies it's the whole history, the founders of the Football League status, Dixie Dean the other many great players to have played for the club, Goodison Park being the first 3 tier stadium in Europe, their whole standing in the game etc. Southampton have spent a lot of time in the lower leagues and have won only one major trophy in their history the FA Cup in 1976. They're famous for Jimmy McCalliog (the scorer of the goal that won the FA Cup) and Matt Le-Tissier. That's it. Nothing there really.Like it has been said in a previous post if Everton want Koeman he will come. He would be mad not to.

21 years old, never seen us win a thing. Listened to mum, grandad and nan bang on about the golden years which makes me believe we'll be back but from what I've witnessed we're miles off that at the moment. That's why this manager is so huge.

Ask them about their glory years when they were Division 3 Champions (twice) or when they won their only worthwhile trophy when they were in the second division.

He uses each club he goes to as a stepping stone to a " bigger club ". He's openly stated that his ultimate ambition is to manage Barcelona one day.

You've either got to admire his self confidence and ambition or condemn him as an unscrupulous self motivated whore !

Imagine having ambition to reach the top. Thank goodness Moyes didn't have that.

If he does that well that Barca take him off us I'm sure there will be plenty of others queuing to take over!

That's how it should be. That's how I've always been in my career, it's business - no loyalty, just think about yourself. It breeds success.

How many away fans do southampton take to matches ? do they sell out their allocated tickets ?
They are actually advertising seats in estate agents windows to try and sell ST's.

Also are always advertising games on the radio as they don't always sell out.

He took a side that was a monumentous dumpster fire with barely enough players to fill a side and righted the ship and right now make no mistake, we are a dumpster fire right now. The only thing that would worry me is that Soton seemed a little streaky. They'll take 13 out of 15 points in a month and follow it up with a 2 for 15 stretch.

Exactly! He's well known for having 2 separate bad stretch in his Southampton career. Having said that, every manager suffer from these stretch once in awhile, what makes the difference between a good and bad manager is to reverse it in the shortest time possible.

I'm stunned that they're calling us delusional about us claiming to be a bigger club than them (we are delusional but not about this lol) Their main argument seems to be that they've got a way better team than us at the moment and have finished above us in the past 2 seasons. So apparently only the last 2 seasons in English Football count in the minds of anyone deciding which club to go to. I've just had a look at their league finishes and I didn't even know how bad they'd been as they're such an insignificant club.

Here are the league finishes in the past 10 years:

Southampton:

2015 - 7th (Premier League)
2014 - 8th (Premier League)
2013 - 12th (Premier League)
2012 - 2nd (Championship)
2011 - 2nd (League 1)
2010 - 7th (League 1)
2009 - 23rd ((Championship)
2008 - 20th (Championship)
2007 - 6th (Championship)
2006 - 12th (Championship)

lollollollollollol

Everton:

2015 - 11th (Premier League)
2014 - 5th (Premier League)
2013 - 6th (Premier League)
2012 - 7th (Premier League)
2011 - 7th (Premier League)
2010 - 8th (Premier League)
2009 - 5th (Premier League)
2008 - 5th (Premier League)
2007 - 6th (Premier League)
2006 - 11th (Premier League)

Piss taking aside though, I do think they have a valid point that at the moment that in terms of the performance of both teams recently we are not a step up. I believe we have equally as good a squad as them but have massively underperformed. With the right manager, i'd expect this Everton side to finish above them next season. That's without any additions.
