Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

I wouldn't call Southampton irrelevant and I don't want to start acting like a Kopite. So I'm not going to call them a small club. I like their club, even if some of their fans hate us for no apparent reason. I like how they do business.

But Koeman surely will be rubbing his hands at managing our players. Forget our history, or our bigger stadium (or the plan to move to a 55,00-60,000 seater stadium), or Moshiri's 100m transfer war-chest..... It's the fact that Martinez has been SO INEPT defensively, that any defensive minded coach would IMMEDIATELY improve us.

Martinez took one of the best defences in the league, and turned it into one of the worst with the EXACT same players bar one. We threw away 20 points from winning positions this season, a hell of a lot of those games we we 2-0 up. We'd be on 64 points if Martinez knew how to keep a lead. And that's not including the past 10 games (30 points) in which he totally lost the players.

We don't need an overhaul, despite what many blues think. We just need a decent COACH. Koeman knows he will have the backing to keep his players, something that he doesn't have at Southampton. But despite all this. I don't think he's that much of a step up from De Boer. If anything I think this whole episode is his agent trying to get him a better contract while at the same time get De Boer to Everton. (since they have the same agent) ... or if he is that crafty....get De Boer to Saints and Koeman to Everton.... more money for him.

Do we really need this massive discussion about Southampton? All I'm arsed about is whether Koeman is good enough or not.

In human body terms Southampton are the appendix. It's there but no one knows what it does and no one would miss it if it's yanked out.

Imagine being Koeman and having to manage a club supported by a fanbase that's the equivalent of the Inbetweeners on cocaine. The cringey bastards trying to banter you every week, and the all round scruffy nature of the "city" of Southampon and its people. They're a tragic bunch of humourless titheads who no one is arsed about.

We're Everton, Liverpool is our city. There's no debate to be had really.

The cruise ships know it. The outside tourists choose it and so will their Eskimo eyed freckle of a bee stung featured manager.

If he wink at him he will crawl over broken glass to have the honour of managing Everton and to put distance between him and their mouth breathing southern coast mutants.

End of chat.

Not sure how that relates to what I'm saying. How does this list, that you could also have written before last season and every previous one, suggest Koeman is any less likely than other candidates to challenge for the top 4 here?

look at the list again: i wouldn't be expecting Koeman's Everton to make top 4, but top 6 with moshi-backing is on.

Pellegrini's Everton it would be more expected, for he has the pedigree.

Ranieri threw a right old spanner in the works anyway, so who knows?

how did you vote?

Lads, it's Southampton.

You might as well be getting your knickers in a twist over what Northampton fans think.
This. It is probably Brian Swan on a Soton forum. By their logic, Leicester are a more attractive proposition than City, Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal for any manager or player.

I suppose that, like Alan Pardew once said of another team that play in striped shirts, They're on a different level to Everton.

Hi everyone, just wanted to make an account and apologise for the Saints fan that was on here earlier. Seems to be some bad blood starting between the two sets of fans which is a shame, and just not needed. 100% you are a bigger club then us, have been for many years now (all you have to do is look back over the past decade). You've got a good squad, new owner with money, and a big fan base. There's no doubt in any sane Saints fans head that if Koeman won't sign an extension this Summer then our board may not want to keep him for his last year, and he may well be tempted by Everton. I just think, personally, Koeman and Southampton are a great fit for each other especially as his managerial record wasn't great elsewhere and he's had a chance to build his own squad over the last two seasons. You'll appoint someone who is better then Koeman in my opinion but wouldn't be shocked if he left for you guys. Anyway, sorry for the rant. Best of luck finding a new manager and hopefully both clubs will be battling it out for the Top 6 next year. ;)

That's fair enough that you believe that, even if it's based on nothing substantial.

I haven't bothered voting. I don't know if he's the right man for the job, but I know that if he is and we get him, we won't be happy to be back where Moyes had us because we'll be spending big with the "right man", so the first option contradicts itself. I'd have voted had the options simply been Yes and No.

I couldn't of said it better myself.

Mainly because I wasn't equipped with the humour.

Whats with the pissing contest? At the end of the day all this 'bigger club' crap is irrelevant. If we offer him more money and a bigger transfer kitty than Southampton, he will come here. If Southampton offer him more money and promise to keep best players/decent transfer fund then he will stay there.

Its all about the £££££
