What makes you say that?

Ronald Koeman has dampened speculation that he is interested in the vacant manager's position at Everton by saying that he is staying with the south coast club.

The Dutchman is heavily linked with a switch to Goodison Park in the wake of Roberto Martinez's departure from the club and reports that he could be tempted to Everton led the back pages this morning.

Koeman was asked about his contract situation and his future by the press at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend's final games in the Premier League.

"I am manager of Southampton, everyone knows I have one more year of my contract," Koeman said. "What I said last week when I got [asked] the same question about future is that we will sit together and analyse this season and talk about the future. That's what the news is today."

Asked outright if he would be staying as Saints boss, Koeman, who is on record as saying that at the least he would see out his three-year deal with Southampton, simply stated: "Yes."

Another man mentioned more by the media than supporters in connection with the Goodison hotseat, Mark Hughes, also played down talk of him replacing Martinez by committing his own future to Stoke City.

"I'm more than happy here and looking forward to next season," Hughes said. "We've a lot of good things going on and my job certainly isn't finished.

"I feel sorry for Roberto Martinez, who is a really engaging guy. Unfortunately for him, they have decided to go in a different way."

That's just a non-answer, they asked him about the speculation and he avoided the question, then asked him point blank if he'll stay and he said "yes". He can't say anything other than that when Southampton's season isn't over.

Absolutely. He could have stopped all the chatter immediately by saying "I'm not going to Everton next season", but he didn't.

He is not to leave Southampton, why should he do this? De Boer leaves his job for Everton and still you think Koeman, it is crackers.

He could hardly come out in his press conference and say "you know what I wouldn't mind a crack at the Everton job" now could he?

As I said before, he could be sincere in his answer and not want to leave The saints, how is it you cannot accept that, that might the case.

BTW as I said to The Esk done decently but not brilliant. Now do we want a decent manager or a brilliant manager?

That's fair enough that you believe that, even if it's based on nothing substantial.

I haven't bothered voting. I don't know if he's the right man for the job, but I know that if he is and we get him, we won't be happy to be back where Moyes had us because we'll be spending big with the "right man", so the first option contradicts itself. I'd have voted had the options simply been Yes and No.

It's common sense that a Koeman appointment = striving for top 6 whereas a Pellegrini/Mancini/José = top 4 ambitions.

As you can read from the many replies in this thread, a lot of blues are feeling a bit meh about Koeman because they wanted a candidate with pedigree of already making Champions-League places in a major league.

Hence the little blurb after the "yes" and "no" options. It's not that deep, tho'...the yes & no are the important bits.

Depending on who's advising the board, I want a manger who knows how to win games of football in more than one way!
