Ronald Koeman

Ronald Koeman...good choice for us?

  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

  • no, it's uninspiring even if top 6 is back on

  • josé on toast

I just don't see why Koeman would go to Everton of all places. He could get the United job if he wanted to.

Or you're being called out by a yo yo club who think finishing seventh is an achievement. Our present stinks but we've now got money to spend (which hasn't been the case) and everything's about to change on and off the field.

I never get in to a conversation wwher "bigger", "greater" is the topic. Best left to kids talking about their dad, car, TV or whatever.

Southampton fans are a miserable bunch aren't they, who could blame them?

2 Seasons of selling thier best players and not spending all the money they recoup. I can imagine thier forum full of anti board thread and it must be absolutely depressing to be supporting the club. We know, been there and done that and thank god we have moshiri now. There's only 4 words for them.

Where's your money Southampton???
It's funny because from the outside we look far more miserable.

Yes, because currently, and in the last 30-odd years, our history is incredibly poor. We've barely hung on to our premiership status a few times, and most fans, to be quite honest here, don't give a rats arse about history, and only teams who haven't won anything in years keep banging on about it. The RS do it every single time anyone mentions a title too, despite the fact I hate myself a bit for that comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of our history, we WERE a great club, but therein lies the problem - 'were'. Should Koeman go to Villa then, seeing as their history is better than Saints'? Or Preston, or Wolves? No, no he won't, because in most cases managers want to build for the future, not for the history of the club, and those two clubs have nothing to offer and are quite on the low right now. As things stand, ours is more or less uncertain and, despite the money, we'd be a massive rebuilding job - why would Koeman, in his right mind, get away from finally perhaps having a stable team with Southampton (and also possibly being in Europe), and then coming here only to have to re-do it? That's what I mean that it's a side step at best, as he'd go from top 6 Southampton to possibly top 6 Everton (and that'd be up to him and his buys). Different for a manager with no job currently, and nearly any club would be a step backwards for Mourinho, I still doubt we'd get him, but part of me hopes...

Our history should be a motivation of sorts to managers - to bring us back to the glory days - but our recent history (read: the last 25 years we've not had any silverware other than the Everton cup which we got for playing Everton) doesn't exactly show anything exciting, does it? Top 5 a few times, top 7 most the recent times, several seasons in the bottom half, several dances with relegation, two great escapes, one FA cup final and a few semi finals.

Southampton's history is poorer than ours, but does that mean they're currently doing worse than us? Nope. That's more or less what the lad said too, but because he had the word 'history' somewhere in his post - people stuck to that and called him deluded.

Feel sorry for you if you think we are equal to Southampton.

Feel sorry for you that you can't comprehend when reading something.

I did read it and it was bollocks, sorry. Southampton have been in the premiership a few years, and finished above us for two seasons and that is down to our manager.

But anyway I shoudnt have to explain this to a Everton fan. Let's not argue as I'm off to make breakfast.

I like how you prove my point with your post, thanks.

Enjoy your breakfast x

LOL at the people on here thinking we won't be a sidestep (at best) for Koeman.

As if he'd be arsed about history anyway.

Also that lad was honest and pretty much spot on in most of his post, I don't get why people are getting pissy about it.

Oh, I believe you do.

It was the disrespectful tone that grated.

And of course, you have to ask, what was the purpose of his/her's ramblings?

You can convey meaning with out being literal. It was implicit in many of his massive paragraphs. It wasn't an answer or a response per se, more my own statement and observations.
Which are, again, based on the fact some club which we have a better history than dare to have fans who say that we've done really poor lately, and their team's done better.
