  • yes, he'll get us top 6 and stability

All Everton fans need to get a reality check here. Over the past three years under Martinez you've been on the slide. You've probably got rid of him just in time before you became the next Aston Villa or Newcastle. I say "probably" because depending upon what happens this summer with players leaving you could easily be facing a relegation fight next season. The reality is that you've got a massive rebuilding job to do. Koeman is on the brink of getting Southampton a top 4 finish. That will depend upon what happens this summer with players leaving although on a daily basis now players are extending their contracts. No disrespect but why on earth would Koeman leave Southampton now to go to Everton when 12 months from now he will either get the Arsenal or Barcelona job? He won't.
Why are those Soton fans getting all edgy when we're clearly no threat to their supriority?

Another Saint marching out!:bye:

Not acceptable

Sorry I don't speak mong you utter mutant.

What is this "massive rebuilding job" I keep hearing about? The reason we've been poor is because of a poor manager who didn't get close to the best out of a very talented squad.

How many times have we heard that this is the best squad of players we've had for 30 years?

Whether it is or not can obviously be argued, but what can't be argued is the fact we currently have a very good squad of players.

The only "major rebuilding" will be if we lose a couple of very important players which may not even happen if we get the right manager in and show those players our intended ambition.

I know fans will always over rate their players, but I firmly believe this squad is a top 6 squad we currently have, and that's without the strengthening we'll be doing in the summer.

There is a far bigger upshot here than at Southampton. Can Koeman take Southampton higher than they currently are? IMO no.

Could he take us higher than we currently are? Almost certainly.

Koeman is seriously over-rated. Remind me again of how our poorly managed under-achievers did against him last August.
I'm not to keen on Koeman but that is 1 game look at his record against the top 5 or 6 this season he has beaten them all

Koeman sounding a little moe equivocal about his future. Encouraging though he could just be using our interest to squeeze the Saints. “It is possible [to sign a contract next week] but that is always depending on the conversation.”
It seems to me it all comes down to £. That's the only clear enticement that we can provide. Double the wages Southampton will offer and provide a much bigger budget and he'll come. Don't and I can't see why he would.

We all know the last two seasons was a slide under Martinez that's why he is fired. We are a top 6 PL side for over a decade. Now Mr Moshiri will take us back to where we belong and these no mark Soton fans think they are bigger than us. Koeman is doing the same stuff as Moyes for two seasons. We shall aim for better manager nsno.

Don't know why everybody is getting in a twist about all this its paper talk at the moment, as far as we know he hasn't been approached for the job , so can't say he wants it or not, same as mark Hughes in the paper saying he is happy at stoke and not interested, means nothing because we don't really have any interest in him.
I think he should stay were he is and finish the job he has started,
We need somebody that will stick around and take the club onto the next level , with the new money, new ground around the corner, and rumoud new investors joining the board soon, it will be a different landscape.
I don't want him as I have state before, just don't see how he is an improvement on somebody like moyes

Mmm Armitage Shanks eh = Toilet.....I smell poo here.

Everton will sound out the new manager before going any were near them, they will not approach anybody they know isn't going to take the job, it would be a waste of time for both parties, if they go for koeman it will be because he has indicated he will take the job.

Yes, because currently, and in the last 30-odd years, our history is incredibly poor. We've barely hung on to our premiership status a few times, and most fans, to be quite honest here, don't give a rats arse about history, and only teams who haven't won anything in years keep banging on about it. The RS do it every single time anyone mentions a title too, despite the fact I hate myself a bit for that comparison.

Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of our history, we WERE a great club, but therein lies the problem - 'were'. Should Koeman go to Villa then, seeing as their history is better than Saints'? Or Preston, or Wolves? No, no he won't, because in most cases managers want to build for the future, not for the history of the club, and those two clubs have nothing to offer and are quite on the low right now. As things stand, ours is more or less uncertain and, despite the money, we'd be a massive rebuilding job - why would Koeman, in his right mind, get away from finally perhaps having a stable team with Southampton (and also possibly being in Europe), and then coming here only to have to re-do it? That's what I mean that it's a side step at best, as he'd go from top 6 Southampton to possibly top 6 Everton (and that'd be up to him and his buys). Different for a manager with no job currently, and nearly any club would be a step backwards for Mourinho, I still doubt we'd get him, but part of me hopes...

Our history should be a motivation of sorts to managers - to bring us back to the glory days - but our recent history (read: the last 25 years we've not had any silverware other than the Everton cup which we got for playing Everton) doesn't exactly show anything exciting, does it? Top 5 a few times, top 7 most the recent times, several seasons in the bottom half, several dances with relegation, two great escapes, one FA cup final and a few semi finals.

Southampton's history is poorer than ours, but does that mean they're currently doing worse than us? Nope. That's more or less what the lad said too, but because he had the word 'history' somewhere in his post - people stuck to that and called him deluded.
You've made several good points no doubt. Although we did win the FA Cup 21 years ago (I know its a while back but still). Your penultimate paragraph strikes a chord with me as thats what I want our next Manager to have as his motivation (or an important part of his motovation) when he comes in.
One of the points of my reply to the Southampton lad you've indirectly illustrated too. You point out, quite rightly that our 'history' over the last 30 years isn't great. And yes, we've had iffy times in that period. But, its still more 'history' (in that same period) than Southampton for sure. He was looking at the last 2 years only (which is his perrogative). I accepted they'd done better than us in those 2 years. The table doesn't lie.
So I'm not disagreeing with you about the way Koeman might look at this. Yes he's rebuilt a squad thats challenging for a Europa league place. Something not long ago we had too. If, for that reason, he stays there, then fine. He's not the man for us then and I wouldn't slate him in his thinking. We need and want a manager who wants to make his mark and restore this club to where it once was (even if in the short term thats 'only' back up to 6th or 7th). Then we can look to build further again.
I have two sons aged 20 and 18. I brought them up to be Blues (that was tough in itself given the vast majority of their school chums are or were RS). They go to the match with me, home and several aways. They have the bug. I want them to experience what I saw in the 80's (more so than for myself). I do get it that the younger generation look to the now and the future (its the only way really).
One thing we're definitely agreed on is Mourinho. I can't see it though. But there's nothing wrong is starting at the best available and going from there.
