Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

What are people on about? He came on for the last 15 minutes of the EL final last night with the game already won after not being picked to start over a half-fit Kante. The League Cup final a few months ago he was utterly anonymous and City fans were actually chanting about how crap he was.

He may have medals but still no one in the country is talking about him, he's only back in the England squad because it still seems any Englishman at a top club gets an automatic place. If he played for Watford would he be in there with the form he's shown this season? Ask yourself that honestly.

Last night's win is probably going to be the pinnacle moment of his career, I'd celebrate as well if that were me. Doesn't change the fact he's not an important player for them, no kid gets his name on the back of their shirt and if they sold him this summer would any Chelsea supporter care?

He's not a top level footballer, never was, never will be. None of that is bitterness, I wasn't in love with him whilst he was here. Richarlison showed more this year to get me excited about the future than Barkley ever did.

The pont is that it vindicates his decision to leave Everton. And I dont think it'll be the last trophy he wins with Chelsea either.

It must be great not playing much and winning stuff.

He’ll look back on his career with a real sense of fulfilment and pride.
He played in a European final last night. That's one of the things he probably dreamed about as a kid, just being able to get on to the field in a European final.

That puts him into a small elite groups of players. There's probably plenty who are better than him who never made it that far up to the pinnacle of the game. He took his chance. Yes he really screwed us over, but he's a professional in an industry that moved to improve his position.

As far as I am concerned, he proved he was right to move. Now it's up to Everton to get to a level were we can prove he was wrong.

So he's done pretty well to be involved in a team winning trophies than surely hasent he?

You say he isnt an important player, not every player can be the superstar in a team, it is a team sport after all not an individual sport

Joins the ranks of Richard Wright and Jack Rodwell by leaving Everton and snaffling up the winners’ medals.

Played 2,725 minutes this season, that equates to 30 full games
47 Appearences in total.
Thats not bad for a team that has fiinished in the CL spots and won the europa league.

Hardly put him in the Rodwell & Richard Wright cannister just yet

Well done Ross lad. Maybe next season he can move on bigger and better things. Maybe one of those benches with the heating on underneath.

47 Appearences
Just over 2,700 minutes of football this season (30 full 90 minutes)
What he did to us was absolutely snakey, but if you look at it with perspective, he has justified the move for himself.

This season

27 PL games
12 EL games
5 LC games
3 FA Cup games

"Out in the cold". :coffee:

Worth noting that over half of those 27 league appearances were from the bench. I'm assuming for the rest he was injured, though I suspect there were some weeks he didn't make the matchday squad.

Congratulations, Ross!
