Yes, but Moyes could have chose to sell Jags, Heitinga and Baines instead. Like I said, the manager is told what the budget is, and it's up to him to manage us. That's why Roy Keane referred to us as a proper football club. The manager is truly the gaffer, and believe it or not, it's serving us well that strategy.

I'm just saying that Everton were complicit in the sales of Rooney and Arteta, it wasn't like with Lescott, where the player forced through a move against Everton's will.

Nah.

Throughout season 2009/2010: Baines is deffo going to Man Utd you know.
Summer 2010: Baines stays.

If you don't learn from history you stay ignorant.

Utterly tedious negative tabloid anti-Everton garbage. That isn't true.

Close thread.

Yes there was a lot of continuous media BS regarding a supposedly inevitable sale of Baines to Man United that never took place. But how many bids did we actually receive for Baines? I'm only aware of the one, and it was so derisory that it was laughable.

The media may do the same thing with Barkley and City, but I personally believe that if City actually put their money where their mouth is, and if they actually made a bid of 50 million, then I think Kenwright would accept such a bid and sanction his move to City.

Comparing a 24-29 year old defender to a 21 year old massively hyped attacking midfielder.

You've lost the plot.

I'm just saying that Everton were complicit in the sales of Rooney and Arteta, it wasn't like with Lescott, were the player forced through a move.

I believe Arteta cried for his move, because Moyes had 'blagged' him to stay for another season, and he'd let him go if we didn't get champs league.

You're talking out of you're arse with Rooney. We got £10 million upfront, £10 million the season after, and £5-7 million in add ons. We spent that money - it didn't go to the banks. Nobody at Everton wanted to sell Wayne, but faced with a big offer, and a player who wanted to move, in our financial situation, we had to sell. Are you seriously trying to say that Rooney wanted to stay? Have you seen the way he's treated utd and manipulated new deals?

Here's some news for you mate - banks can't take actual money that you don't have. That's what happened with Arteta - He was sold too late for us to spend the money, and in the middle of a global recession, the bank (Barclays) demanded that we hand some of the cash over to reduce the overdraft.

end of the day it comes down to the lad himself. we'd accept a high enough offer, the thing is would he push for the move or would he say no?

hopefully hed say no to all clubs bar the clubs no player says no to (real or barca)

even then, if a club can offer him double the wages that we can... its tough

just enjoy him while hes here. hopefully itll be for a long time yet.

It won't even matter what he wants, he will be manipulated in the same way that Rooney was. He's a young lad who will be persuaded by those who 'look after' him that a deal to a 'big club' will be the best for him.

First of all, you can't be sure that Ross will be manipulated by an agent like Rooney was. The lad is on £65k per week and is already set for life financially.

I'm not saying he'll stay loyal to us 'forever' but I'm also not saying "HE WILL be manipulated" to push for a move. Lend me that crystal ball you have there mate.

The bank demanded a reduction/repayment of the overdraft before Arteta was sold, that's why you will remember Kenwright talking about writing a letter to the bank pleading with them not to pull the plug before Arteta was sold, and why we had already sold all the other players in a fire sale, and added next to nobody before the transfer window shut.

The whole country knew we needed to sell players that Summer, that's why Arsenal only bid 10 million, it was a pish take from them. Arteta had only just signed a brand new contract the year before, in which he was put on 75k a week, it wasn't a one year extension or anything, it was a brand new contract for a number of years. We wouldn't have sold him for a mere 10 million if it wasn't for the pressure from the banks.

I could be wrong on Rooney, but I remember that we were on our arse at the time, only just about managing to bring in Marcus Bent for 450k a few months after finishing 17th in the league. I don't think the board were losing too much sleep about agreeing a deal that was going to net them over 20 million quid over a two year period. It was a hell of a lot of money back then, and we were favourites to be relegated at the time the deal was being made.

Barkley has just signed a new 4 year contract.

You're crackers if you think him and his advisers didn't know or think other teams would be after him.

If he was thinking of leaving, he wouldn't have signed that deal and his advisers would have told not to say things like 'I love it at Everton, this is my dream to play here, I want to win stuff with Everton'.

Use your head for once Brennan, you're supposed to be intelligent but this weird cynicism is completely at odds with reality.

Im sure if I looked I could find countless comments from Arteta telling us how happy he was at Everton and saying how much he loved the club, pretty sure he was saying it just days before his move to Arsenal.
