Ross Barkley

Bold claim

Agree.
With Rooney though I always felt like we were the right club at the wrong time for him. He was never going to be able to drag us through to trophies with the team he had next to him.
With Ross its different in my opinion. He is one of three or four who can win us trophies and I think that allows us to be that bit more excited.

In my opinion there is every chance Ross could 'do a Stevie G' and be the fulcrum of this team for the next ten years. With Rooney I never felt that.

You know what Liverpool had when they won stuff though?

Lots of money

Again I agree. But the football landscape is changing too..especially since Rooney left.

Young players are thinking twice 'about the big money move' as they have seen what the likes of Wright Phillips, Sidwell, Rodwell, S Parker, S Sinclair go to these clubs and stagnate massively.

You have also seen the increase in competition and the rise of some 'sleeping giants' i.e. Dortmund, Athletico, Bilbao and to a certain extent Liverpool last year.

You only need to look at the teams who have got to the finals of cup competitions to see trophies can be won.

They can, The main reason being the big clubs hardly take the domestic cups seriously anymore

So what; that takes nothing away from the fact it will be in that clubs history books forever.

You seem like you have a massive chip on your shoulder; cheer up.

The argument is would Barkley be happy further down the line not challenging for major honours, I would be bouncing of the walls if we won the League cup ffs, But as a player would you not want to be playing in the CL and winning leagues

He was sitting there all smug rewriting history. Fair enough, the man did a good shift for Everton (in between moaning about money one week and then saying he didn't require money the next week), but he's telling a few fibs there when he implies he brought the best out of the likes of Coleman, Barkley and (most bizarre of all) Rooney!

Could spot a decent player though. I'd have no problem with him coming back to Goodison as chief scout and head bottle washer.

All of the above mate! It was a bit of a fallacy we all knew he had his core group that made up an annual paper squad and he wasn't for budging on it, despite some past and contemporary starlets. It's the philosophey he puts forward as a Guru of nurturing youth that rankles as it's disingenuous. But I can't help feeling sorry for him, he's basically hawking himself around for work, selling his wares (Utd story) for a bit of profile, sad overall. But then I remember his antics with Baines and Fellaini and subsequent comments - still leaves a bad taste, you don't cross Evertonians. @
