Man of match. Made the CM position his own tonight and added a new dimension to his game. It seems the more pitch we give him to operate in the better he is, played with conviction and made things happen, played some fantastic passes and done his best to get others moving too

The problem he's had is how isolated he is in that number 10 role. We fire the ball into his feet with 2/3 men around him and except him to do something.

It was great to have a forward thinking player in centre mid last night, long may it continue against poor sides at home.

I think we all now he has all the technical and physical attributes to be truly world class. What seemed to have clicked last night is that it is not enough just to have the ability. You need to play with tenacity both on and off the ball, especially in the midfield. He did that magnificently last night.
I also think that behind the striker, he has less responsibility so tends to lose a little focus, whereas in deeper role, he was sharp and involved. For me he has to play and he has to play in CM. The question is, who plays alongside him?

Maybe we could do

Besic
McCarthy Barkley
Naismith

Kone
Lukaku

Serious lack of width though....difficult

Doubters have been having a little dig at Ross of late. Last night he showed what an amazing talent we have at our club.
Considering he missed a sizeable chunk of the season ,then on his way back to full fitness he gets a totally unwarranted mouthfull of abuse from Roy Hdgson.
Its enough to knock any player let alone a kid thats had so many setbacks.
Lets hope Ross stays injury free and rams it down Woy's throat. He is, like most of us already know a fantastic talent.
Ive not seen an Englishman perform like that since Gascoigne......Long may it continue.

I like him in the deeper role, I think he should stay there! He can dictate play from there and use his huge range of passing, he can also break forward at times like he did for the goal last night!

You don't need to have two defensive midfielders in the deeper roles. Look at Chelsea with fabregas and matic, one creator and one holder, it can work!

Guaranteed hes back on the wing come saturday..

We need Barry out more often... :)

We really do, obviously not through injury but you don't need to play a 33 year old every single game when you've got talent like Besic, McCarthy and Barkley. We will lose these young players including Stones if they see the likes of Distin and Barry getting picked week after week regardless of performance.

Barry's top level is good but when he's tired or unfit or doesn't have McCarthy to cover he is found out. He cannot play at grounds like WHL or the Etihad if its his third game in a week. Pace, power, aggression, forward thinking, box to box play - everything Besic snd Barkley showed last night that Barry does not have.

Would love to see in a couple of years time a sort of 433 with 2 holders and ross just in front them;

Ledson/Besic - McCarthy
Barkley

Winger - Rom - Mirallas
But at the same time id love us to go out and buy a natural #10 now, de bruyne would have been ideal, best mates with rom known each other since kids and from the interviews they did together for chelsea they clearly have a natural friendship not something forced. Shame other teams can't bend wolfsburg over like we have so there players leave on the cheap :P Thats also not accounting for the fact hes a classy footballer.

Still think at the moment though until mccarthy recovers im not convinced by barkley and besic going to a top 6 team away from home and producing a shut out, people like barry are still going to be vital for the harder games were we are not getting things our way and having someone like ross who is incredibly natural on the ball and going forward but has to give more effort mentally to defend and be more disciplined it could struggle away from home but he certainly seems to be more suited long term to a deeper position and given a bit of license like yaya toure at city.
