Ross Barkley

Snods saying "let him ping it to Lukaku" makes it sound like last season he was doing it nonstop.

1 assist.

I don't want to seem as though I'm bashing Martinez relentlessly, because that really isn't my intention, but I wonder whether by Martinez giving Ross a bit too much "freedom", it has been counter-productive.

For instance, I've seen a lot of interviews with Barkley in which he says "I give the ball away, but that's because I'm a risk-taker, etc". Okay, fair enough, his style of play does lend itself to that, but I would prefer it if he was saying "I need to work on making sure I don't give the ball away". I don't know if Martinez is putting enough of a harness on him. He's sending him out there with free reign, and the lad is not learning the right skills at the moment.

....Alan Ball was MoM in a World Cup Final at 21, then moved to us and impacted every game he played. Rooney was doing similar from 16 years of age, John Stones is a youngster and has more good games than bad. Age isn't an excuse.
Ball and Rooney were two very special talents, I don't necessarily think he'll be that level. As for Stones, he's a very mature player for his age, he plays like seasoned veteran! There's also been plenty of top players who had slumps as a youngster, in fact a lot of top players were nowhere at 21. It's just my opinion, though, I've got a feeling he'll start producing some top stuff soon.

Fact remains he isn't really that good outside those long bursting runs and long range shots. His vision, intelligence, subtlety, range of passing, awareness, crossing, technique is light years behind the standard it should be.

Lukaku flaws are (rightly) pointed out after every game but fans/pundits/commentators rarely ever mention Barkley's. 1 assist in 60 odd PL games absolutely atrocious for a player playing so high up the pitch.

.....genuinely hope you're right, Barkley.

Reading through these comments, why does he get more of a let off than everyone else? When Rom's crap people slate him for it and say he's awful. When Ross is crap it's because of the team around him or he's still young so he'll come good? Rom has made a much better impact for us this season than Barkley has, and yet he get's a lot more crap from the fans. They're both 21... Is it because Ross is English?
