Ross Barkley

Rom cost us £28 million.

I'm not saying it's fair, but that's why he gets more stick - he has to 'live up to his price tag'. Ross has no price tag to live up to.

I understand he has a lot to live up to, but he's 21 and scoring goals in the prem at a pretty good clip. Ross has done nothing memorable all season and people make excuses for him. Doesn't add up. I get what you're saying, but that logic is flawed.

Of course the logic is flawed. The cost of a player in no way impacts his quality. But there are a lot of people that allow the price tag to influence their view of a player.

Both Ross and Rom deserve time. Rom is performing better than Ross this year. Both have loads of potential, neither are consistent, and Ross has been awful this season. That doesn't mean either of them are terrible or won't make it or whatever.

They're kids. Most kids aren't ready to take over a league at their age. But expectation, blah blah blah.

But plenty of folks care about the price tag, because a big tag comes with big expectation, "How many solid players could we have brought in for £28 million." Is very different than, "How many solid players could we have brought in for...oh, right, he's an academy product."

Academy products will always get more leeway.

This thread really does sum up one of the most annoying attributes of the modern day football fan.

Barkley is in only his second season of professional football, having also missed nearly two years (?) of development thanks to a double leg break which nearly ended his career before it had begun.

Last season was his first season in top flight footy and overall he had a very good debut season in which he scored some wonder goals as well as putting in man of match performances against the likes of arsenal (at Emirates) and Liverpool (at Goodison). In that arsenal game in particular he made ozil and co look bang average. He was immense.

Fast forward to this season. He missed the first half with a bad injury and overall has been poor since returning to fitness.

What depresses me most is fans writing off a 21 year old (who missed nearly two years of crucial development) in only his second season. It's complete and utter madness. you don't score the goals hes scored and put in the kind of performances he did last season without a ton of natural ability.

If in a couple of years he's shown zero progress then maybe start doubting his ability. As it stands anyone writing him off after half a bad season needs to have a word with themselves.

It's roberto's fault tho. Bringing him off against Leicester was poor management. Players like him often have 1 moment of brilliance to win you a game, even if for 80 mins they have been average.

He's getting no real chance to play himself into form or build confidence. Basically play boss or your being hooked ross lad. Not ideal.

If he was ever average, it would be a big improvement.

This is all very noble and sympathetic towards Ross, but the in your face fact of Premiership life is that neither Everton, or any other Premier League team can afford to carry a passenger for another 'couple of seasons' in the hope that he comes good. Ross Barkley 'turning the corner' is a matter of some urgency and unless there are positive signs very very quickly it will a matter of grave urgency. Its a cruel world.

Indeed, not to mention he's still a very sellable asset right now despite his poor form. Another season or two of this and he'll be plying his trade at Bury on a free transfer (hyperbolic but you get my gist).

Hope he leaves, gets playing in a team that plays him in a natural posistion and play proper modern day tactics.

Watch him ripping it up most weeks, whilst turning into the top class player he's destined to become....

And laugh at all the Morons on here that have pretty much written him off and would rather get on his back than bare with him. Moaning that we couldn't keep him!!

And in his 66 appearances for the club, Barkley has created 55 chances, 54 of which his team-mates has failed to convert.

Stats can be used how ever you want mate!!
Correct mate, we should be made up we have such a great talent at the club, plus he is a died in the wool Evertonian.

Eye it's crazy mate. Don't get me wrong it's dissapointing he's not been hitting the highs of last year this season. But there's certainly many reasons for that. 90% of them not the lads fault!!

We're lucky to have him. Very lucky!!

He is so frustrating. I like most think he has the ability but somewhere deep inside I don’t think he has the football brain or desire to fulfil his potential.
I’ve said this before so forgive me for repeating myself he doesn’t or can’t tackle, doesn’t win or can’t head a ball and the most worrying but I’ll put this down to age makes a great run but doesn’t appear to see the final pass, lacks vision. The last may come with time but the others he should have been learnt by now.
It may be that he’s playing under orders to do certain things or play a certain way but to chase an opposing player down and then leave a dangling leg without committing to a tackle will only lead to more injuries.
I want to be proved wrong by him and see him fulfil his potential but unfortunately I don’t think it will happen. Please prove me wrong Ross.

Tbh I think this final pass vision rubbish is a myth. He looks the most likely to play a final pass in our team! (Apart from maybe gibson) had our players been able to finish, he made such passes against both liverpool and arsenal that could of won is those games.

I suggest anyone claiming he doesn't have that final pass etc...takes a serious look at his game and the amount of final passes, thru balls he's actually made. People not finishing them, or passing it on to someone else to score obvs doesn't go into the stats.
