Ross Barkley

I liked that Ross was trying to control the game, but he needs to learn to influence it differently to how he is trying now. He doesn't have to be the goalscorer, no need for pop shots surrounded by 3 opposing shirts. Feel he needs to use his storming runs to just open up the space and play the ball into better positioned players, the opposition will find him much more of a handful that way.

Next year should be an interesting season, hope he stays fit and finds form

He seems to lack confidence in his defensive zone to play deeper where I think he can be at his best and puts to best use his abilities (great making longer runs and distributing good long balls). Hopefully he focuses on studying positioning over the summer.

I only saw the 2nd half since I was working although I did learn he missed the penalty but from what I saw saw he looked good, he seems to have gotten his mojo back and confidence. We won and who cares about a pen miss but Baines should really be taking them and the free kicks although Baines needs to get back to the practice ground.

The question then for RM is Barkley going to be a starter next season or does he buy a decent no. 10?

My hope is that he buys a fresh no.10 simply because we can't afford another season of a misfiring Barkley. We also need another regular goalscorer.

I'd sit Ross in front of videos of Frank Lampard all summer clockwork orange style. He needs to add more goals to his game if he going to make that position his own.

This!

Technically, physically and natural ability, ross has ample more than lampard ever had.

He doesn't have that positional know how and knack of being in the right place at the right time to score goals regulary. And knowing when to shoot and when not.

Hopefully it will improve with time. But as you say he could do a lot worse than watching lampard's game.

Keeper goes the other way and its a good pen. One of them things really.

Why tho is Baines not taking pens these days? It's like liverpool or chelsea back in the day not using Gerrard or lampard for pens. Crazy...only at everton!

I think it would be a waste of money for martinez to go and buy a specialist no 10, at this moment
With Barkley still developing

You can't have Barkley sitting on the bench next season

He should be looking to build around him
He seems to be playing one sitting midfielder now
And pushing mccarthy further forward
We need someone better to do mccarthys job
Like Milner who's much better in the final 3rd

You say we need more goals, and to challange the top 4 we definitely need nore goals

But Look at the best no10's in the prem
Silva Oscar, ozil, coutinho. I don't think one of them has 10 goals
And they all would cost 20 to 30mil

The wingers/wide strikers is were we need to improve
Because martinez is always going to play just 1 forward

Apart from mirallas our wide players don't score
Pienaar Mcgeady and even Lennon who has been great for us
All have shocking goal returns

I haven't looked at lampard stats
But I'm pretty sure in his 1st 3/4 years in the Prem with west Ham and Chelsea
He wast scoring loads compared to what he was a few years later

i think Gerrad was the same

I'm not saying Barkley will go on to be a regular 20 goals s season player

But I'm sure it will improve with experience

They all create very well though, Ross still needs to work on that which I'm sure he can develop
