.....was in Blackpool today for work and drove back listening to an interview with Danny Higginbottom on TalkSport. He's promoting his book but made a few interesting comments about how today's young professionals don't have to go through the apprenticeship duties the likes of Beckham, Scholes and all that went before them had to do.
He mentioned a few young stars and I thought of Barkley. The inference was that perhaps they lack a bit of the right attitude. I'm not saying he's right but it is a consideration.

Probably more on-pitch reasons for things going the way they have for him this season, but I thought this was an interesting insight, albeit from the lower leagues.
The lad is reportedly quiet and focused, and the few occasions I've had in meeting him (serving him in work) he came across as a few pennies short - which is not unusual, of course.
But I think he may have struggled partly because he can't listen to more than one instruction, and is kind of devoid of the traditional footballing brain that he could rely on if he is struggling for the confidence needed to feed his undoubted technical prowess.
