Ross Barkley

Would you rather he tried a diffucult pass which might not come off, or kept possession?
Personally i'd rather he passed it to a man who's in space 10 yards away from him, rather than trying to take on the world.

Speaking to fans of other teams about yesterday and every one of them commented on him in the same way. He does too much, he doesn't spot the easy ball, he makes hard work out of any attack.

I love the lad, i know i'm being insanely harsh on him...possibly because he's one of us and i want him to succeed more than just someone who was brought in. But i honestly feel he's got a lot to change

His decision making is poor. No doubt about it; he needs to massively improve in this regard. Take David Silva for example, he's superb technically, but does he try to run through everyone every time? No, he's not afraid to play an easy pass or take the sensible option.

If Ross can improve in this regard, he can be a star. His natural ability is sensational as is his passion and aggression (take note Jack Rodwell).

Bit harsh there ,Ross like all the team was very disciplined (and had to be).
Kept possession well & rarely gave the ball away .Played very well imo.
I watched the match again when i got home from the match, i saw the same things twice. Started off exciting then he needlessly run into danger, got himself tangled up and gave the ball away. As @bluemangroup has said, hopefully it is situations that he can go away and learn from...but i'm starting to feel like it's groundhog day.

People moaned about Rom in a much more harsh manner and i feel like he's worked on correcting quite a few of his mistakes.

I don't know, maybe it's a confidence thing with Ross too, when your lucks against you etc

He's 21 mate.

He's 21 mate.
and? I think at 21 a player can be fairly judged on how he's currently doing. I'm not saying he's never ever going to hit the heights, i'm saying he's got a lot to change to get there...which you can't deny isn't true.

If he was playing 3 times a season then fine, but he's playing a lot and therefore can be judged on his season. I think if anyone thinks he's had a good season they're only kidding themselves

It's his second full season in the league. He will have come to realise that he can't just run through everyone and he will need to distribute better if have thought.

Nobody thinks he's had a good season, not even Martinez.

This lad has absolutely everything required to make something special of himself. You are dead right that the final piece of the puzzle is decision making, and you're also right that yesterday he failed to release Lukaku at times when he could have. But at the same time, I saw a young lad turning a team of world beaters inside out and was a key reason we dispatched them 3-0.

It's been a tough season for him. He blew his knee out the day before kickoff, took ages to get back and when form dipped received dog's abuse from his own fans. He has a few kinks to iron out. He's a kid, and he has everything in his favour. Time to enjoy the great things he does and let time take care of the rest.

I agree and i hope it's something he can really sort out. We saw at times last season glimpses of what he could become. But it's a very small glimpse, i've seen much more negative outcomes of what he could become.

I want to make sure everyone realises i'm not "ending" his career, or slagging him off and hoping. I want what everyone wants, i'm just being as honest as i can.

Maybe next season we'll see a much more mature Barkley who realises he doesn't have to win us the game on his own. I just don't like the excuse of he's 21 and he WILL come good.

I've seen players like Rooney at a younger age and you could 100% tell he'd come good, i also saw the likes of Rodwell who people fawned over as the new Gerrard and never got the hype.

It really could go either way with Ross. Fingers crossed because seeing him, Stones,McCarthy and Lukaku as our spine was be the stuff of dreams!

How many other 21 year olds are complete at this level ??

Pirlo, Xavi, Scholes, Iniesta, even Lampard were doing nothing like what Ross is now.

People talk about "decision making" like its the easiedt thing to pick up in the world, its THE hardest!!

I thought he played a lot better yesterday and is sticking to his strengths. They are running with the ball and taking people on as well as his long range passing/shooting. He looked a real threat yesterday and was better than his opposite number (Rooney) and Fellaini which is no mean feat.

I do agree with people saying his decision making isn't as good as a David Silva, or an Ozil. He has different strengths to them though. While he can improve his decision making (and hope he does) his game isn't based on intricacy in the same way. It is based on powering past players and shooting.

Silva/Ozil don't have Barkley's physique and ability to beat players. I think there has been too much emphasis on getting Barkley to develop into the sort of player he is not. He lost a lot of confidence that way. He should be told to play his natural game and keep it very simple. Keep Osman/Peinaar in the team for intricacy.

If I tried to look up for a pass at the speed he runs with it, I'd lose some teeth. To be fair I'd fall over trying to go that fast without a ball at my feet. It's so easy seeing the pass watching from distance.

But he does need to start getting that part right. It's kinda in the job description of being a playmaker.

Currently I see him being worth more to us than any other team, so hopefully that's a good sign we'll keep him. I can't see a team spending silly money on him, and I can't see us letting him go for less than something stupid.

My mate who is an Arsenal fan said exactly the same thing yesterday. Always looks on edge, needs to chill a bit.

Yeah, he seems to feel like he has to do everything at once

It's understandable really considering the hype and also that he had a bad experience under Moyes. Moyes never really rated him and it must have knocked his confidence. Having Martinez show faith in him has probably made him think he simply has to deliver to justify that faith
