And no, I'm not saying Ross Barkley is the new Totti, or Zidane. I'm saying he plays a similar role in a tactical set up.

And by the way, if he turns out to be as good as Le Tissier, then I'd be delighted. To compare him negatively to Le Tissier really hints at your lack of footballing knowledge I'm afraid - he was a hell of a footballer.

LOL did you actually watch Le Tissier or only his highlights?

He was what we could call now a YouTube player. Technically superb... But only ever turned up once in a blue moon, couldn't run, wasn't particularly athletic, didn't tackle, had zero defensive ability. He slotted like.

He was the ultimate luxury player and the reason why no club apart from Spurs made a bid for him after years off pulling the odd speccy out his arse 2 or 3 times a season. His lack of many international caps tells you all about how great he was as a player.

Zidane was a tall, powerhouse that controlled the game when given the ball and could win a game single handedly. As pointed out, you either have the ability to do that to cover the defensive liability or you don't. He's in a select few in world football

he needs to learn about his position he takes when his team have the ball in tight areas and also the other way. IMO (the few times i have seen him) he seems to be 5 yards behind either attacking or defending or dancing in a semi circle around the player with the ball!. but positioning and right choice making will come with the more games he plays (if not no chance)! he was getting in his own players way alot!

that corrie kid looked good though!

Right so that's you marked as not worth listening to :) Pretty much anything you say from here on in is pretty much irrelevant!

Sorry but that pretty much epitomises a sh*te footballing opinion. 30 goals in one single season and almost a goal every two games at an unfashionable club, pretty much single handedly keeping them in the Premier League the entire -

You know what, gonna stop typing right there. I'm not even going to defend Le Tissier, it's going to stupidly obvious to 99% of people with common sense on here who ever watched him play anyway!

Le tiss was a striker who played in midfield though. He wasn't a midfielder.

One of my fave ever players, though.

He played "in the hole" before the hole existed. He was a true artist really, one of the greatest players the Premier League has seen. Which is why I'm treating that absolute travesty of an opinion with the derision it deserves ^^

He's being compared to lots of small midfielders with short bursts of acceleration. He doesn't really fit the physical profile and whilst we'd all like to play like Spain, it's not the be all and end all. Every player has a style and there are lots of similar players who have had successful careers in every league in the world. Zidane would be a good comparison, he played at a completely different speed when he had the ball, Kaka, Riquelme, Pirlo in a different area of the pitch, Van der Vaart had a successful time in England, even Gerrard is criticized for his aimless running and lack of defensive nous. The list could go on and on really...

I'd be worried if he was a static 'passer' who's really good in one area but lacking in alot of others but Barkley has an array of skills and versatility in his game. He's got the footwork, plays with both feet and can make any type of pass. I think there's goals in him aswell, he's ambidextrous and isn't afraid to shoot. Six foot plus aswell, perfect for the famous Moyes diagonal.

8 international caps.

Never played for a top club.

30 goals in a season? Andy Johnson scored 21 goals in a season for Palace... He's not a freak of nature.

Oh and Le Tissier did score nearly 50 penalties so that screws his goals ratio.

And did I say he was a bad player? No, I said he was a lazy luxury player with exceptional skill. Prove that I'm wrong?

Platini tried to recruit him for France, he turned down moves to Chelsea and Spurs and Xavi calls him a key influence in his footballing development.

As for his international stats, he played in the same era as Paul Gascoigne who dominated that role -

Actually, once again, I'm gonna stop right there. I don't need to defend Le Tissier, I just don't. You're calling him "lazy" which pretty much invalidates every single footballing opinion you're going to try and express on this thread and probably GOT as a whole from here on in!

How was he a luxury player if he kept them in the division?

Xavi - Because he could beat a player without pace due to his technical ability.

International - You said he was playing "in the hole" before the "in the hole" was a term used, yet cite Gazza. And 8 caps is still very low even if his position is dominated by a better talent.

He was slotting goals for over a decade, yet only two clubs, London clubs, ever went for him years after each other....Why was that?

Pretty sure Man Utd did too, no quotes or anything, just what I remember. They were the best team in England at the time too.
