Ross Barkley

Indeed, and the 17 year old debutant was by far and away the best player on the pitch on the day.

But he's "not ready" apparently.

See the bold bit? That isn't happening, and that is utterly crucial for a footballer's development.

I'm cringing at the people trying to link criticism of Barkley's handling into some sort of moan about a 5-1 win. They are completely separate issues.

His job is to be manager of Everton, not manager of Ross Barkley. Barkley has plenty of time.

Hes obviously not ready though is he? Otherwise Moyes would be playing him. Look how long its took Anichebe to start to look useful. Players develop at different speeds. One good performance doesnt make a player ready.

Jack Rodwell absolutely beasted Man United at Goodison a few years ago, and scored a brilliant goal. Does that mean he should be starting every game for us ?

Oh wait, we sold him, cos he wasn't good enough despite all the hype. One good game does not a player make. Working hard in training every week and being good enough consistently is what makes a Prem player.

I think it's the fact Gueye and Hitz are getting the nod ahead of him that's prompting the questions.

Vellios will feel a tad aggrieved too no doubt.

Surely the exact same can be said of Gueye though? He needs games if he is going to develop. (he also needs to go on a diet)

Whats the point anyway, if Barkley does play and doesnt score a hat trick and give four assists some of our balloon head fans will be on his back anyway.

He hasn't run the show against anybody ffs.

He was impressive against QPR, but 'astonishing talent' ? Deary me.

Some of the hyperbole regarding Barkley is cringe worthy.

Was more than impressive against Villareal in that pre season friendly aswell

We sold him for £12-15m to the reigning Premier League champions. Terrible example.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't rate him, but he played regularly and did enough to impress the best side in the land at that moment in time.

Completely and utterly untrue.

Utter drivel! Did Rodwell even start that game..... Even if he did.... Moyes started him!!! Something he aint done with Barkley!

The first team is doing very well at the minute and its great to have talented young backup. I'd imagine its easier to keep them happy than established pricy squad players. Sure its **** for Barkley, Velios and Duffy but it's for the benefit of the club. Look at the way Moyes treated the league cup and the FA cup. Fair play to him for taking 0 chances today

How is what we sold him for a terrible example though

He was not good enough for us, that's why the majority on here were rejoicing at him being sold. And what has happened to him since ?

That would sort of reinforce the idea that Moyes' judgement is up to scratch. Compared to the scouts at City who thought young Jack was well worth £12m of their money.

Man City also bought Gareth Barry and think he deserves a place in their starting 11 fairly often. Alongside Yaya Toure and David Silva ffs.
