Ross Barkley

This. Completely this.

The "not ready" argument is completely bonkers. We were playing Cheltenham. He came on for 10 minutes against Chelsea, but he's not ready for half an hour against Cheltenham?

Seriously?

Why did he need to come on ? What was the value in it ?

'Thanks for the game time against League Two side Cheltenham gaffer, really felt i learnt a lot about the tempo of the Premier League by coming on for twenty minutes against an ale house team three divisions below us. Learnt so much that my brain is actually hurting from all of the info'

Tim Cahill told me;

GOT: Who, in your opinion, is the most talented footballer you´ve ever worked with?Tim: Ross Barkley at Everton is a special talent. He has been unlucky this season with his injury but he is an immense player with a great attitude to football. He is so mature for his age and I think he is going to be a massive asset to Everton and [the city] Liverpool in years to come. I have been lucky enough to have played with some great players in my career but I do not think I have ever seen a talent like Ross.

I think Velios is in much greater need of minutes presently. Having a half for Vic today would have done him the world of good.

Barkley is making up the numbers in the squad at the moment whilst other players get fit, he's some way off playing regularly as his cameo against Chelsea demonstrated.

I don't really see anything but potential with him if I'm being honest. My only real view was what I saw of him during the U19 World Cup and he disappointed me given the hyperbole on here. John Lundstram looked by far the better midfield player there; why no clamour for his inclusion?

TBH i'm not even sure of the value in bringing him on against a League 2 side. What would he have learnt that would aid his Premier League development ?

Barkley was only ever brought back as back up when we had injury worries, Moyes himself even said that he wants him to go out on loan.

Movement and positioning alongside the first team set up. Building him up gradually, getting him used to expectations at the first team level.

If he's not ready for football tonight, why was he ready to come on against Chelsea when chasing a losing game against the reigning European champions?

I disagree with Moyes on loads but he's right about Barkley - nowhere near ready and the mistakes he's made are consistent ie lose the ball cheaply and we're countered. Chelsea should have scored last time.

We have all this kneejerk saviour stuff with whoever's not playing.

That post doesn't even make sense...

How is Moyes starting him, or Barkley not starting, relevant to his performance ?

A lot of people thought that Rodwell was going to be ace as a result of that United goal, and i've often seen questions like 'where did it go wrong after THAT goal' asked on here. The point is that QPR was just one game over a year ago. Whether you like it or not, seeing a player every week in training gives you more authority to decide whether a player is ready or not than a few sub appearances and one impressive performance against QPR.

Honestly lad stop making references to training... Its rubbish!

Moyes came out this week and said he has always believed Barkley will one day play for England. But he has to be wary!!!

Must be **** in training then ey Brennan

Tubey mate, im not having a go personally, BUT, when Barkley was going on Loan to Sheff Wed you thought it was a mistake due to him getting clogged, but when he doesnt play against a League Two team you think he should ask for a move.

As I say, just something I noticed, please dont essay me.

Love you

He needs games though mate.

Otherwise, you're going to look rusty when brought on, chasing a game against the European Champions.

I can't see Hitz being here for much longer, or Gueye. So it seemed odd.

Your asking where the value is in coming on against Cheltenham, where is the value in sitting on the bench?

The lad (Barkley) needs to go back out on loan - no doubt.

He also won two good tackles against Chelsea, dropped into space intelligently and had a decent pop at goal. Nobody talks about that - they talk about the one time he had the ball on the right edge of the box and nobody dropped off to give him a ball, because the side was completely disjointed and lacked any form of shape as we were chasing a game with three minutes to go.

In short, you're kneejerking by judging him based on one very, very narrow example.

'Will one day play for England'.

A player can have the skills at a basic level which would allow you to play at the top of the game. That doesn't mean you're ready to go out and play Premier League football.

There are some 15 or 16 year olds who you could say the same thing about too. I bet people watching Messi when he was 12 probably said 'this lad is going to be a world beater'. Didn't mean he was ready to play for Barca in the CL final.

I agree !

I don't think there's any value sitting on the bench either. I was against a loan originally because i assumed he'd get more game time. Moyes' comments certainly seem to indicate that he wants him back out on loan, and i'm fairly sure once another midfielder is brought in in January that he'll be back out again.

I was against Barkley going on loan because I think he can learn more from getting gradual minutes in the first team set up. I worried about him getting clogged but that wasn't a malicious game tonight, so you'd bring him on in the 60th minute and he's not going to get done. On another night, if a tackle went in early and hard, I'd say leave him on the bench.

You can vault me about that if you want - I said it numerous times :)

But Barkley is 19 and well built..
