Ross Barkley

Clearly Moyes felt that the game yesterday still hang in a balance until around the 65th minute. Considering his comments about putting Ross out on loan again, he must have thought that 25 minutes would not change anything. From the article yesterday Moyes clearly rates Ross, but he does not want to risk our cup or league position with the inexperience of Barkley. Another good loan in the championship or even a bottom PL club will be good for Ross, who will then hopefully be pushing for a place inthe starting line-up next season.

We were 4-1 up by the hour mark. Before he made any sub whatsoever. Against a League Two side.

That's not a game in the balance.

Maybe it was Hitzlsperger's last game for Everton and Moyes wanted to give him a final opportunity to play and acknowledge the fans. In a game where it actually mattered, Chelsea, he brought Barkley on. If we'd needed a goal with 20 mins to go last night I'm sure it would have been Barkley instead in of Hitzlsperger.

The best thing to do would be to send Barkey off on loan again, and I think that will happen if we can bring in another CM like Vadis. He'll learn more and it will help his development much more to be playing week in week out than it would to have come on for 20 minutes in a game that was already over.

There's a lot of fuss about nothing here I reckon.

I'm as big a fan of Barkley as anyone but this overreaction is ridiculous. Moyes chose a team last night that did the job that was required - put in a good performance and continued momentum etc.

Really? I'm new here and I thought that's exactly the reason for it! Or it might just be expressing any opinion that isn't anti-Kenwright in the board/blue union thread :o

It is. The rep system basically allows people to say "I agree with that post, well said" or 'I disagree with your post, have a word" without clogging up the board with pointless posts just saying 'this' or 'shut up, lad'.

Well Ross is 19 and it wasn't a prem game so no bother.

But you know Fabregas, Gerrard, Wilshere, Henderson, Spearing, Rodwell, Shelvey, Butt, Lampard, Carrick, Fletcher etc.

Only Fabregas and Wiltshire in that list you can use as an example. All the others are either badly gash, fcuked from injury (partly due to playing too much, too early), or didnt start games at this age.

Also, many of them are not playing for the team they support, that is a huge part of the mental side of it.

I'm not anti- Barkley far from it, but it annoys me to death that we win 5-1 away from home in the FA Cup and yet again people are moaning that Barkley hasn't been used. We all know much better than Moyes don't we?

I've seen 3-4 reserve games in the past 1.5 years that Barkley has played in ( Games that Stubbs manages not Moyes) and not once have I seen anything to suggest this lad is anywhere near ready to be playing in the first team on a regular basis.

Sure, 2 seasons ago he got off to a flyer with promising performances against a newly promoted QPR and away at Blackburn, but really that is it.

I hope to god he does come good, but like any other player he has to show his worth in the team when given 10 or 15 minutes as a sub or a game in the reserves and sadly Ross hasn't shown that worth for 18 months

So why couldn't he have been used as a substitute yesterday? That's the point most are making, we were 4-1 up against League 2 opposition, so there was little to no pressure on the players, unlike in the Chelsea match.
That would seem like the perfect chance to give some of the young players an opportunity to play, but instead Naismith and Hitzlsperger were brought on.

I'm not calling for Barkley to be starting matches, I don't think anyone is particularly, but when we are winning comfortably, then surely we should be giving players such as Barkley, Duffy and to some extent Gueye and Garbutt first team experience.

My point is why should he play ahead of Hitz? With Gibsons run of injuries keeping Hitzlesperger until the end of the season is far more important than brining on Barkley in a game that is already won. Ross has done no more than Maggie Guaye has in the past 20 months or so I don't see why we should be playing him in these situations.

I read above someone saying how he controlled the midfield and was by far the best player against QPR, well he cant have controlled it that much can he? we got beat and didnt play to well from what i remember, so how is that controlling a game?

It was a terrible game, I remember it most for thinking on the way home that Beckford had the worst touch of any striker I'd ever seen in an Everton shirt, even the likes of Barlow and Angel had more ball control.
I think Barkley played left midfield didn't he? had a good shot and some nice cross field passes. But we lost to a QPR team that was basically the championship team that had come up, Patrick Agyeman, Tommy Johnson, Danny ****tu etc..
