Player Valuation: £40m
The logic seems to be that they sent him to Wednesday where there were low expectations of the team and he did very well. We brought him back because we were short in midfield due to injuries to Gibson, Neville, Mirallas and Coleman. We then sent him back out to a side with greater ambition. His record in that time:
Barnsley (A) 2-0. Played the full 90 minutes and had three good chances including an effort that hit the bar in an otherwise shot-shy Leeds team.
Birmingham (A) FA Cup- Unavailable.
Bristol (H) 1-0. Played 78 minutes. Described as their "biggest spark" and assisted McCormack with the winner.
Spurs (H) FA Cup- Unavailable.
Cardiff (H) 0-1. Played the full 90 minutes. "Barkley was denied at the other end with a thumping drive from outside the penalty area".
Wolves (A) 2-2. Only introduced in injury time. Warnock opted to play 4-3-3 instead of his usual 4-4-2.
Middlesborough (A) 1-0. Not in the squad. The manager reverted back to 4-4-2 with Brown, Norris, Green and Varney in the middle of the park.
It seems like Warnock is changing the team shape and personnel on a week by week basis to try and improve results and he's possibly opted to go with more tough-tackling players. From the match reports that I've read Barkley has stood out as the player most likely to make something happen, so it is a bit odd for the manager to decide against playing him. It looks like Warnock is the problem rather than Barkley or Everton.
