Ross Barkley

Absolute nonsense! Osman wasn't good but at least he was in the game.
Barkley looked like he'd never seen a football in his life. Future championship star right there.

Osman was in the game? his legs had gone pal he was providing absolutely no cover for baines on the left hand side and that is eventually where the equalizer came from. Now i'm not saying Barkley played a blinder today but to me he put a shift in and shown some nice touches, would rather him out there than Naismith. Oh and to be saying that probably our best young talent for a while is a future championship star because in your opinion he had a poor game out of position at white hart lane in his first start for the first team since August 2011, is absolute nonsense mate.

Osman played in his natural position after a decade of Premier League experience.

Barkley played out of position in his first start for about two years.
Oh yes, I agree it was a difficult game to come into, but I expect at least a basic level of play, even in those circumstances.
I was as shocked at how he looked, as he was when any player in white came within ten yards.

I think it's a good idea to shift Barkley out wide for a while. He isn't ready to play in a central position in the Premier League yet, so this will give him time to adjust to the tempo without leaving him or the team too exposed. It'll take him a bit of time to get used to a new role, but it worked well with Wilshire and Cleverly and I think it will with him as well.

I just hope he doesn't disappear for the rest of the season now that Pienaar is available again.

He's used to collecting with his back to goal in advanced areas and being able to take a touch and look for the incisive run.

The problem with receiving the ball out wide is that you have very limited directions to turn. That's where a proper wide player knows to take the touch and distribute quickly and spin off back into space.

Basically, what you saw was a central midfielder playing on the wing. Leon Osman has had numerous shocking performances as a winger for Everton too.

Christ on a bike. The lad is learning his trade, live, in front of 40000 people, against experienced pros who will have been on his case the whole time. Would have been good for him, IMO.

This all day long.

If he'd have had 20 starts under his belt for us and then played like he did today i'd be worried.

He's still young and hugely inexperienced. Of course he's not ready to slot in and be of the same standard as regular seasoned players, but to get there he needs to play games.

Either a proper loan where he plays in the Championship week in week out or stay here but actually gets used. Last couple of weeks have been ok although not the ideal games, they've been and gone since he made his debut.

He needs to play to be "ready" rather than sitting on his arse.

How dare you be sensible on the Internet ? He was either gash or wonderful, there is no middle ground.

He was like a rabbit caught in the headlights every time he got the ball. Hopefully it's just nerves, but I think his decision making may leave something to be desired. We haven't seen enough to judge him, but it looks like he's not ready for this type of game yet. I'd like to see him get another 10-20 against QPR though, in a game that hopefully will be much more relaxed and comfortable for him.

Hope so mate! You could well be right.
I'm not hoping for him to fail, in fact I was really exited when I saw him on the team sheet.
I'm just not seeing anything in him for now.
Agreed, he isn't ready to step up and perform of what is expected of him, like I said before, a good season long loan at SWFC or someone will help his development.

Someone put on here the other day about Barkley being poor. I'm not basing this on todays performance as he was OK today but why does everyone get happy about him? Everytime he gets it, he either tries to do tricks and looses it or give the ball away. Once in a blue moon he will actually do something with it.
Put him on loan for the whole of next season or something. It has to be done.
