Ross Barkley

Moyes always said that Rooney came though too soon for Everton.

We then had to sell to survive rather than sell to buy and couldn't really offer any realistic change of offering them European football.

With Ross he could be in the first team here for 5 years before joining a mega-club. Assuming we aren't one by then :)

The biggest travesty of all will be of this lad gets sold. More so that Rooney.

I say this because we now have a very good squad competing at the very top of the table. There is opportunities for Ross to win things here. There was zero chance of Rooney doing so. The team needs to be built around Ross Barkley. The same way Liverpool built around Gerrard. If we want to see success here Ross has to stay. He's a future captain. The same way Roma kept Totti.

If he is sold I'm sorry but we aren't ever likely to see our team win the league.

He's gone from not being good enough to being too good for us in about 10 games. We're not allowed to have good players are we.

The precedent is not on our side:

Sold to our rivals (among our best players at the time)

- Rooney
- Lescott
- Arteta
- Rodwell (potentially best)
- Fellaini

And when we've bought from our rivals, they've been their cast-offs (Howard, Neville etc).

This state of affairs may also be something Martinez wants to avoid, to help give us the mindset that we're not a feeder club to the Sky Clubs anymore. As it turned out, those deals I mentioned were mostly good for us anyway.

But yeah, it's precedent which is causing the worry that we may not be able to keep Ross.

Yeah the problem with Rooney is we didn't get him for very long. If he had stayed 5 years and then moved on, so be it. I just want to enjoy watching him play and have him help us win things.

If then he goes off to Madrid or Barca or Bayern then so be it. I just don't want to see him go to another English club. I couldn't take that tbh.

...he won me over with the Norwich strike. Sign of a top player that. I always say don't believe the hype and that seeing is believing - I believed from that point. The boys a player and Martinez has provided him with the stage to prove it.

I have to admit it took me a bit longer, all the way up until the Arsenal game. Now I'm convinced he's gonna be one of England's best players.

His contract with us is until summer 2016. That means this coming summer (during and after the World Cup) there will be a lot of talk about renewing his Everton contract.

I hope this is done before the World Cup, not sure I can handle another bittersweet Euro 2004 experience where one of our own dominates international teams, only to have in the back of your mind that that means he's leaving.

How did the Liverpool fans feel when Gerrard was going that season ?

Dunno why we dont do what they do in Spain and add stupid release clause to contracts.

Barkley would have 100m, Kone 50p and a snickers.

Oh come on, just cos hes injured it doesnt mean I cant still abuse him? PLEASE, ok, ok, FFS

...I'm not being romantic or naïve when I say I don't think he's the type to have his head turned at this stage. He's clearly loving his game at the moment. He will move when the time is right and I don't think he's the same type as Rooney who was ready to hit the ground running at somewhere like United.

Its been obvious since the moment he stepped on the pitch that he has unbeleivable talent.

It was only the Moyes lovers that kept bringing up the negative, then on another thread they would defend Phil Neville !!!!!
