Ross Barkley

The very worst is that he misses WBA, Liverpool and Villa. He wouldn't have been involved against Stevenage anyway.

However, it doesn't appear to be a bad break, so I think there's a good chance he'll be back for the derby.

If it´s the metatarsal, no chance. Even if the fracture is small it needs to heal properly which will take two months at least.

If he did that during the game and never came off with it (and factoring in differences of pain threshold and the likely effect of not registering the severity of injury until the foot cooled off and was at rest) it cant have been a massive trauma. He'd have been tested straight away if in real pain from a Rooney/Beckham type metatarsal injury and unable to carry on playing against QPR.

I tend to think from what I've seen from this manager - who is a trained physio, of course - that he errs on the side of caution and is well prepared to give players a lot of time out to recover from knocks that other managers might view as a niggle or a short term injury.

Either way, we are not Ross Barkley FC. We have a formidable team (boosted no doubt by arrivals) that no other team will want to come up against.

Amid the smug satisfaction I'm feeling right now, this is a bit of a turd in the punchbowl.

It is proper crap mate don't get me wrong.

But this success thing, surely it's a squad thing too? We can cope without Ross for a few games, then when's he's back, he's hungrier than ever and the other lads are made up. Happiness all round.

That's my optimistic view. :)

Coyb!

that's my thinking mate bad metatarsal injuries are often very painful, also no one knows if its the metatarsal or the toe Martinez wouldn't know until an x ray was done, considering he had a late fitness test Im gonna say either a hairline fracture of the metatarsal 4-6 weeks max (he's done a week already) or worse case a broken toe which is probably again around 6 weeks

Looking at probably 4 weeks.

Sure the RS will enjoy this news. No chance for analfield now. Typical ain't it

To be honest i think one of either McCarthy or Barry being out would of been worse, its not great news, far from it but not everything goes through Barkley, still totally confident about that Derby game
