Looked poor but was playing out of position again.

This.

The decision to play naismith and Lukaku means that Ross (and Duelogeu too today) have been played out of position. Today he was poor and definitely got knocked out of the game by Davis, Wanayama and Cork. If he isnt playing of thr front man he isnt worth starting with at the moment

He has seemed slow in the mind recently. Doesn't seem as instinctive as he was. All to be expected at his age though and now has a full seasons experience behind him.

He doesn't have a low enough centre of gravity to play on the wings. Very much at best in a 4-2-3-1 behind the striker. Wouldn't get the space in a 4-3-1-2, but might be able to work in a narrow 4-3-2-1?

His head is deffo not right, he miles behind the player he was earlier on in the season. Was told a few weeks ago his agent is playing hard ball with Everton and are looking for a massive contract, this could be putting him under pressure.
Sadly I always fear this is the case when a player loses form even slightly. However he is just a young lad and I think he is a more instinctive rather than thoughtful player so when the ball doesn't come his way he can stay on the periphery. But everyone was poor today, easy to over analyse on Ross. He has got a lot on his plate mentally though, England/contract/newspaper articles......... Strikes me as still a very young lad.

Article on the the Daily Mail website he's been getting alleged threats from a 'gangster' If any truth in this maybe that's affected him on the pitch.

I think the Oviedo injury shook him up a lot

I think in addition to all the maladies listed above he just seems a bit tired out, he had so much more pace and power earlier in the season, the climax was at Arsenal in the league. I'd still want him to go to Brazil but not to start every game, maybe Rooney can start and Ross can come off the bench 2-3 times before England lose in the quarters or something. If he signs a new contract soon it could be a new lease on life.

I will take a bad performance once in a while if he comes up with goals like the one up at St James's a few weeks back.
Southampton was just a bad day out for the blues, i think we are running out of steam :(

With Hodgson at the game yesterday, and Ross' recent form, I'd be very surprised if he went to Brazil. I think a summer break to recharge his batteries will do him a world of good.
