Ross Barkley

The amount of media exposure that has come Evertons way in recent months because of Barkley is invaluable.
Only a Bale-esque transfer fee could justify a sale.
The club is in a very different position now compared to when Rooney was sold...but Rooney had only twelve months left on his contract and the clock is ticking with Barkley.
The most important thing for the club this summer but get Barkley signed on a long term deal.

That is my point mate, i think we will see huge huge bids, if he shows a bit of magic at the WC.
I'd like to think we are talking astronomical fees at this point though. His value to Everton far outstrips his value to any other club, i'd have thought.

Exactly. There was no goal like a Rooney goal, now there is no goal like a Ross goal.

btw Rooney was better than Gascoigne so I'll go for best player since Rooney.

Rooney has had a better club career, but was never as good as pre injury Gazza. 1989-91 Gazza was phenomenal, in that two years Gazza was as good as anybody that has ever played the game IMO.

Teen Rooney was a sight to behold though in fairness. He should have been unquestionably the best the country has ever seen, whereas he's JUST had a brilliant career to this point.

Teen Rooney was full of the potential to be an Everton legend, something special. Instead he turned out... well... the wrong type of special.

Agreed Rooney never fully achieved his early potential and although he's goal record for England is good he has never (yet) had the impact at international level that Gazza did in 90. Ross has that potential, it's the ability and strength to drive with the ball and go past people that makes/made them all so exciting to watch.

Still have a lot of years with Barkley left. Don't know why so many are concerned about him leaving. He's finally broken through into the first team and will probably get a new big money contract soon. He's also under the tutulage of a great manager whom he has great respect for. At the moment his ambition is to be the best he can be rather than trophies which is the stage rooney was at. When rooney was bought he was already one of the best players in the world, barkley has some way before we can say that about him.

if barkley scores a worldie in the world cup(ha!..ermm) this is likely to catapult into star status,do we think? look what happened with rooney and owen...if he stays with us, marketing potential could be massive

Hope he has a blinder, then Chelsea offer us £3.4 billion for him, then we decline until they offer £5 billion and Courtois. Then we accept, buy Messi, win everything from the Champions League to the World Cup (after FIFA recognise the blue half of Merseyside as its own Sovereign state) and everyone lives happily ever after.

Surely Chelsea would fall foul of the FFP?
