Ross Barkley

First team football in the Championship is barely above our reserves in terms of development worth as far as i'm concerned. Knock and run bollocks.

Hense the reason Championship sides come up and stay up nowadays.

Who would you rather Barkley over right at this moment?

You have to realise that it's all about balancing that side out, he's too attacking to replace either Gibbo or Fellaini in the center of that park.

He's probably going to be ace when he's a bit older - but I don't think he's ready for the step up yet.

Barkley is a player who needs first-team football to further his development, a loan to Sheffield Wednesday would be perfect for the lad.
Perfect, how?

I mean, we're "saving" him from being kicked off the park with the first team - playing him in the reserves and whatever. Now we will let him go to the Championship, where there's probably only 1 or 2 teams that don't rely mainly on physical power and he'll get kicked non-stop when playing. I see.

What happened to "he's not ready to start yet" anyway? He's suddenly ready because it's not for us?

To those saying the championship is poor quality then how do you explain teams coming up and staying up? Its the 4th most watched league in Europe and is a good standard these days.

I watch a fair bit of the Championship, and I would say that most sides play pure passing attacking football.

It's not Division Two nowadays lid, it's a good standard of football and a good arena for developing footballers.

Hes not ready to play for us as we have better players atm. Hes ready for a slightly easier level. Its not about protecting him from getting kicked... its about letting him learn his football without the pressure of 35k screaming fans on his back. Are you being deliberately obtuse or are you actually just that dense?

Come on Brennan, that's nonsense that.

As someone else just posted, the number of Championships sides promoted in recent years who have stayed up. There might be one or two that play like that, but not all of them. It's an entertaining league and he'd learn a lot playing in it.

Again it all boils down to this - he's not getting in our side at the moment. So why just have him sitting on the bench? Let him go out there and get some games under his belt, so he'll mature as a player and a person.

Really don't see the problem with this.

Give me a list of teams who've been promoted in the last 5 years who have stayed up for more than one season having NOT invested in the squad. Bear in mind that 12 teams who were in the league in 2007-08 have remained until today.

That's also ignoring the fact that teams who are promoted have to change the way they play when they reach the Premier League. You watch some actual Championship football between two lower sides (such as Sheffield Wednesday) and tell me that it's of a good standard.
