Ross Barkley

Hes not ready to play for us as we have better players atm. Hes ready for a slightly easier level. Its not about protecting him from getting kicked... its about letting him learn his football without the pressure of 35k screaming fans on his back. Are you being deliberately obtuse or are you actually just that dense?
Oh, we do, right. When Neville starts in midfield we will all be happy with Barkley being somewhere else, I'm sure.

35k screaming fans? Like... the Hillsborough (39k)? Granted it won't be filled to the brim week in, week out, (or ever?) but still has a fairly big attendance record, doesn't it?

All in all, I am that dense, yes, as I want a player of ours to get a few starts for us against the weaker teams and a few second half/60th minute subs instead of sending him out on loan. This is what I think anyway, it may be wrong in the eyes of many, and I can't pummel it into your heads, right? Also no need for the "obtuse" there.

Not sure how that's relevant to the discussion of the quality of Championship football. Teams have to invest and change their play to remain in the PL, ergo it's not the same at all as playing in the Championship.

Fairly obvious that the Prem is a higher standard of football than the Championship. There are Championship teams that play a decent brand of football though - it's not like we dont knock long balls sometimes (far too much infact). I'd have no qualms sending the lad to the Championship should we strengthen our squad further. Duffy, Osman, Coleman etc have all benefitted from this.

You won't see me disagreeing with that, but on the whole i don't think the style of the lower league will benefit Barkley.

People like to say that Beckham went to Preston. Are those people saying they don't think Beckham would have become a fantastic player without that loan ?

And didn't he play 5 games? Hardly career changing or skill-improving, is it?

Give me a list of teams who've been promoted in the last 5 years who have stayed up for more than one season having NOT invested in the squad. Bear in mind that 12 teams who were in the league in 2007-08 have remained until today.

That's also ignoring the fact that teams who are promoted have to change the way they play when they reach the Premier League. You watch some actual Championship football between two lower sides (such as Sheffield Wednesday) and tell me that it's of a good standard.

Swansea
Norwich
Stoke
Hull

I'm not sure what this is supposed to prove. You ignored my final point about him not currently getting in our side, and how he's not going to develop sitting on our bench.

He's not good enough for our first team at the moment.
With the potential he has, he's too good for our Reserves.
So we have two choices - give him 10 minutes every game for 6 months. Or let him go on loan somewhere and play 90 minutes every week, so that when he comes back he's ready to properly challenge for the first team.

I'm really not sure what you want me to say. The answer is obvious, play him more. Just because it's the only realistic choice doesn't mean i have to be happy about it, or thing it's a positive thing for Ross.

I'd much rather see him get playing time in the last 30, or against lower league teams (See: Leyton Orient in the Cup) than play in the Championship.

I see Chelsea have just loaned their highly promising 19 year old England U-21 regular (and former Chelsea Young Player of the Year) Josh McEachran to Championship side Middlesboro, on a season long loan.

What a shame, that poor lad is going to get lumps kicked out of him by all those Championship clogger teams.:dodgy:

Haha, this.

Barkley needs to be loaned out. I'm shocked some can't grasp it.

He wouldn't get into my first 11 at the moment.. i don't see the problem in sending him out on loan to a Championship club at all.

Personally I can't see any issue with loaning the lad out. If he won't make our starting line up he wopn't get match fit playing a few minutes here and there as a sub or playing in the reserves where, quite frankly, the tempo is lower as there's less at stake in matches. If we are worried that he might get kicked in the championship, then this isn't the sport for him. There have been plenty of sides in the Premier League in recent years with players who prefer a more "physical" game that could do just as much damage to him (Stoke, Bolton etc.) so he's hardly at greater risk going out on loan for a while. Perhaps we can send Big Dunc to keep an eye on the wee lad and make sure he doesn't get bullied.
