Ross Barkley

As per usual this time of the year, I hope to have a stress free couple of months that from the torment supporting EFC.
This spat coming so soon puts paid to that.
I want him to stay and can see why RK is annoyed as he says he wants Ross to be part of his project. Seemingly if he doesn't want to sign, for whatever reason, the Koeman has to look elsewhere.
Then there's the rub. This project, given Koeman lusts after Barca will he be around to see his project through?

WHU wouldn't surprise me,given Koeman statements on signing attacking midfielders if Barkley stays or not.I think he'll be looking for a team where he has most chance of being a regular starter.Just get the feeling he doesn't like the idea of his place in the team being under pressure. Some players thrive on it,Martinez constant fawning spoiled him.

He initiated it all and gave the message throughout this season that he was well up for questions about Barkley.

Dont be making excuses for him.

He gave the message that he was well up for Barkley questions? When exactly? And how do you know tha? I am pleased we have a manager that talks openly... better than wondering what's going on...

If he goes to West Ham or Newcastle then good riddance if that's the kind of judgement he has.

I'm hoping he will stay and become the player we know he can be, but if he doesn't then it could well be another example of an extremely talented individual who got too much too young.

Of course he was happy to take questions on Barkley, he will take questions on all matters concerning Everton like any true professional manager would.

Some may not like the answers but when the player dosent have the same professional stanards amd commitment to Everton that he has him self at this present time there isn't much he can say.

He's obsessed on Barkley in a way he never did with any other player this season. Initially he brought Barkley up for discussion at the beginning of the season by giving interviews where he stated Barkley hadn't delivered in his career. Then his press conferences were dominated by questions on Barkley and he never held back.

There can be no re-writing of history on this. Koeman has heaped pressure on Barkley all season.

No one needs to rewrite history, don't forget with Barkley being English and local he is far more of a story to the press then a lot of other players so it's understandable he is talked about more in press conferences.
All players are under pressure but some handle it better then others, when/if Barkley goes to the capital (West ham proberbly) or the northeast he won't have the same amount of pressure which might help him.
Not to mention off field pressure which Barkley has away from football, which is a bigger problem

He's been targeted by Koeman though. The club should be a safe haven for him to develop his talent, instead it's become a place where he has to justify himself from game to game like no other Everton player in my experience has ever had to do. The level of scrutiny was brought down on him by his manager and he's done it for a purpose.

Safe haven??? Like what the frig

We're a football club who've won nothing in 22 years and need to sort the mess out ASAP. We aren't some Sunday league team where young lads can come down to get away from the stress of the previous week.

If Ross wants to play here then he needs to continue to improve and he needs to learn that this is a pressurised environment. If he hasn't got the mental strength to succeed and be a winner then on yer bike son, and enjoy West Ham.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff, don't forget Koeman will probably only be here 3 seasons so he has to move fast, you only have to glance at the table and the home record to see how he has transformed the side, if anyone can't hack it and gets chewed up along the way that's there problem.

But surely he 'targeted' him as you put it because he felt there was a better player in there who warrented his attention. It worked as well. Among the group I attend the matches with, most felt he had plateaued and where disappointed in him generally. This season , following Koeman 'targeting him', all felt he improved massively, and at the games you can sense that's the opinion of the whole crowd. Hence the standing ovations, I don't recall him getting many the previous seasons.

I agree, he has put the pressure on and as a result Barkley has responded quite well, if we want to challenge for top four and a trophy next season the pressure will only increase. I'm not saying Koemans infallible but he's not in the wrong here I don't think. In reality we should've offered Ross a new deal last year and if I were in his shoes I'd be signing the one on the table so I'm disappointed how it's played out so far and it's on Ross head.
