Ross Barkley

Any decent manager looking to get the player secured would simply say: "There's no news on that. It's an internal club matter. Next question please".

We don't know what goes on behind closed doors. Koeman was bombarded with questions about Ross, especially after he dropped him around Christmas iirc. You can't evade questions about high profile players though Dave. It looks like we will have to wait for many years to find out what has really unfolded behind the scenes. I appreciate you don't like Koeman, but don't think for a moment that Ross hasn't played his part.

Lukaku is going to be daft money and all the industry would see it as a fait accompli out of the club's hands. That isn't the case with RB though. If we lost him it'd be a terrible message of failure to the world.
Deffo agree with Dave on this. We have had Lukaku for 4 years. 3 on perm someone is going to offer silly money for him and all clubs have a price. Ross is a boy blue selling with one year left at a price less than ideal would be a far worse PR disaster. Personal Feelings on Ross's quality be damned.

How do you know that?

For all anyone knows, he simply left it to his agent completely who has signed at the end of the season. Like, by the way, he did for his last contract which in the midst of speculation to United etc. was signed in July.
How do you know he hasn't been? I mean we have had all kinds of conjecture pointed out here about how Koeman was lying when he stated stated a new contract was offered but it wasn't signed. Seems to me nobody really knows the truth on this.

I have no idea and I'm just guessing but my take on this: the manager has advised the club that Barkley should be offered a deal that sees him nowhere near the top table of wages at the club; the player and agent have held out looking to see if that concentrated minds and changed matters; the board have seen the danger in letting him go right now and have offered him a package that takes him near the top of the wage league (or to the top if Lukaku exits) and at least bought time for a future sale.

I have a feeling that the manager wont be happy though.

Apparently last year there was an offer of a new contract as somebody reported, however it apparently went unsigned.

Koeman said: “We know he has about 18 months left. That’s not the priority now. In the new year we will have talks about his situation and his future but the priority now is playing and winning and see what happens in January. I’m not interested in what is said about the future of players. There is no one knocking on the door now about players from Everton.”

Everton only recently presented him with a contract. Perhaps the last 6 weeks or so, or 2 months. Informal talks only began after January 2017.

Yes, he has a right to do all that. He doesn't have the right to pick up a huge megaphone and conduct the club's business like some St John's Market butcher screaming out the odds across the floor.
You know what if and I state if in big red letters because some on here question you for saying this stuff even though they make similar kinds of statements all the time., he was offered a contract and did not respond then I too would be questioning it out in the open too, why because I'm not having the entire clubs fan base questioning why I didn't do more to keep the player here.

I doubt the source, but hope that he signs. Ross has had a crap year; called out in public by his manager, indifferent form on the pitch, snubbed by England, off-field gubbing and controversy, endless press speculation, and the ire of our fans.
He's one of ours, and with some new blood actually making runs into space for his killer pass I hope his career gets back on track next season.

The club fanbase would not be pointing the finger at Koeman for him leaving, they'd point the finger at the board and Moshiri.

I believe somebody mentioned there being something back in the first or second quarter of 2016. Not my statement.

Maybe Ronald could have had a quiet word with Ross, give him the ultimatum of next week or whatever, but Him coming out and telling everyone at a Presser was wrong. He could have just said 'were still in talks, there's still a few things to iron out', whatever. This hasn't done Ross any favours amongst an already fractious support from fans towards him. He has been hung out to dry a little bit. There's was no need for Ron to come out and say what he said whilst there was still games left, not doing anyone any favours at all.

100% this.

100% agree with this. Maybe the offer on the table is poor and his agent has had better from the likes of Spurs, maybe Ross and his people have been waiting for us to match those offers, maybe Koeman's just doesn't see things through Blue tinted specs like us when it comes to Ross and has decided there is far better out there. Either way we'll never know for sure but both the club and Ross have contributed to us being where we find ourselves. If he has signed a new deal that's great.... it's what we all (we'll most of us) want, if he hasn't we move on. The boys a great talent and blue but he's had half a good season in 3 years - he's very replaceable.

Maybe tomorrow's announcement will be Barkley has signed or maybe it will be Koeman has resigned, oh heck maybe it will be both?
