Why should he say that? We want honesty from our club, leave the bullshit for you know who

I have no idea and I'm just guessing but my take on this: the manager has advised the club that Barkley should be offered a deal that sees him nowhere near the top table of wages at the club; the player and agent have held out looking to see if that concentrated minds and changed matters; the board have seen the danger in letting him go right now and have offered him a package that takes him near the top of the wage league (or to the top if Lukaku exits) and at least bought time for a future sale.

I have a feeling that the manager wont be happy though.

Agree with that part. I can't see Koeman wanting Barkley even at the same level as Barry or Baines who are on £60k and £70k a week, due to the fact he's an unproven kid in his eyes as opposed to a senior pro. Barkley will leave now and there will be plenty of suitors imo. Lots of clubs trying to get him on the cheap and turn him. Real shame as Barkley is a blue.

IMO he'll sign up and it wont go down well with the manager. If he does sign the usual platitudes will be spoken but there will always be a tension between Koeman and Barkley.

I can see him going to Man Utd in a cash+swap deal involving Wayne Rooney!

Or the manager just doesn't think he's worthy of stressing over if the player himself wants to leave?

Doubt it mate.

I think (and hope) we have a deal in place now.

No club calls a press conference to give a fanfare of trumpets to announce that a player hasn't signed a deal yet.

It's done and dusted imo.

Maybe, no idea personally. But elite footballers, which he is, have shown a strength of character and determination to succeed that few on here could even contemplate. Just look at the 100s of very very talented players that just dont make it to the very top. All excellent players, but that 5% is missing.

Barkley is not a shrinking violet.

But I take your point that players need different treatments.
