Ross Barkley

Where anywhere is there an intimation that the Club will 'sack' Ross? That's just sensationalist guff mate....you're posts are better than that.
They've offered him a lucrative contract, his advisors have done or said nothing knowing full well that we can't let him run into the final year without a new one. Putting him up for sale is a very, very sound business move and it safeguards Everton. Safeguarding Everton is surely what we all want? Offered good a footballer a contract and listing him if he doesn't sign is not sacking him. That's a very different thing altogether.

The lad and his agent are stringing every one along, flirting with any club above 7th.

Finch Farce
'Ronald, I know this kid. let me speak to him.
'screw him. We look ridiculous. We need to say we've had enough
'give me til noon tomorrow'
'no'

I think that Koeman views players as commodities to be traded. Whereas us fans are emotionally tied. Koeman does not want to be in a position of having to replace Barkley after the season has started. It will be impossible to get the right reinforcements at that stage and will no doubt bugger up next season, something Koeman can't afford to let happen. Also, from the clubs point of view there is a £30m - £50m asset that can walk if a deal is no done. However it is handled, the right time is now to sort it out. If Ross signs, great, if not cash in and move on. No player is bigger than the club.

Any evidence of that whatsoever mate?

Nope.

Are you really that naive? He almost has 12 months left on his contract and you reckon he is paying an agent to advise him on colour schemes for his loft conversion. That agent will know which clubs are interested in him, how much they are willing to pay him per week and if he doesn't Ross needs a new agent.

He's right when he says he constantly bangs on about Barkley in the media. He has and he still does.

I don't think he starts every interview or press conference with this is the situation with Ross, he gets asked what's happening and he is too honest/stupid (delete as appropriate) to say no comment or something like we are working on it.

I do hold the opinion that Koeman is unsure if Ross can do what he wants a player to do in that position so he isn't arsed what happens. So from that point of view Ross is not going to be begged to stay but perhaps that is a good thing. Knuckle down and get better or jog on. But I also agree it is a shame if we lose a player of that potential, just like Gerry, I don't think we will get to see those mercurial talent type players while Ron is in charge.

Great mate, agreed, so you know what the club should do? Sell the asset. Privately set the deadline and get rid of the asset.

It's that simple.

its obviously a pressure tactic; the club do all that as you've said, in private, and then you get the same groups and people banging on about how we are selling to buy.

Cards are on the table now and everyone knows the scenario. Sign the contract by this date or your out, we (the club) can't do anything more, it's your (Ross') decision

You're probably right, but there is a distaste in many on the fanbases mouths (we're an echo chamber, but as far away as I am, GOT is my window into the fan's thoughts) right now. 6 months ago there were many that said he wasn't good enough, but few saying we should sell him or calling him a traitor or acting like he is some sort of villain.

Now that Koeman has put this out publicly, repeatedly, for weeks, there is a lot more general discontent with Barkley. People acting like he should be happy to sign whatever the club puts in front of him just because he's an Evertonian. That mentality is ridiculous, and is being fostered by the public pronouncements of his boss.

How would any of you like your contract negotiations with a company to occur under constant media spotlight? Even then it's a bad analogy, because Ross has fans that have expectations of him loving the club. But loving a company shouldn't cause you to make bad life choices or stupid financial decisions, and if he feels he's being offered under market value he has every right to negotiate for a deal he believes is better. Not doing that isn't being a bad blue, it's being a professional.

I know the money at stake seems utterly obscene, but does anyone think Ross has huge earning potential post-football? He doesn't have any media presence, so pundit is out...where will his money come from after his career? He has to see this as his chance to take care of himself and his family for life. He has maybe 10 years to make all that money, and he knows better than most that it can be cut short at any time.

No one is privy to the inner workings of the deal. Koeman putting public pressure on him based on his childhood loyalties is f'ed up and only likely to cause problems.

As I said, I'd have trouble signing a deal after all this simply out of principle.

He's a professional sportsman - their whole being is undertaken in the public eye. It's what gives them the rush. Why should this be any different. You could look at it that paying fans are stakeholders of the Club and contribute to his salary. Likewise, it would be rather decent of the player to keep us informed considering the amount of money spent on season tickets and merchandising....the sponsors who pile in cash might also be interested to know if he's staying or going.
The biggest beef is that he and his agent are simply not communicating with anybody.

I'm not naive enough to jump to your conclusion because a Dutch fella opened his mouth in a press conference mate.

I assume your logic if he does sign will be that he's done so because he couldn't find another club. Again, I wonder where you drew that conclusion from...

Say, Mirallas only signed his deal the other week with one year left on his deal - was he pimping himself out to clubs as well?

No one is going to offer anywhere near £30 million for him for two reasons first he's in the last year of his contract and second he is just not productive enough. He is full of potential withdoubt but the he really by now should be a stand out performer and quite simply he is too inconsistent

Yes, like every other player in the world. They all have a monetary value
Right, but your statement was purely from the club's POV.

Ross has to think of himself as well. If the club are offering him a poor contract (in his own eyes), he has every right to attempt to get an improved offer, or talk to other clubs.

He's doing nothing wrong. Koeman going on about it is trying to play on his childhood loyalties, and that's not a negotiating tactic I personally am comfortable with. It's dirty pool.

Why just Ross? We don't expect a play by play on contract negotiations with other players.

Hell doesn't everyone get annoyed with Rom for being open about it? It's a double standard of spurned fans that was entirely unnecessary, but was created by Koeman going public.
