Ross Barkley

It effectively is. They're paid employees of a business. Only the tangibles of their job duties differ and the amount they are remunerated for their services.

Yes, contracts are sold rather than simply terminated or extended in football, but it's a job. Just because Ross is a footballer doesn't mean that what is effectively his line manager should play by different rules.

I can't even be bothered going in to the hypocrisy of Koeman at Southampton too.
Effectively is the same even though it's different. Right.

Also I don't see RK demonising. I'd love Barkley to sign, but RK says there's a contract on the table and the player can either sign or we have to sell rather than risk losing for nothing in 6 months. That's simple economics at its base level, and completely truthful.

Only demonising if he says "Barkley's a bad blert lads he's flip flopped all the time and even if he signs he'll be sold anyway for being such a massive Ted and not working for free"
Objectively you're correct. Problem is that sports has this huge emotional impact that makes objectivity difficult.

Just look for references to 'disloyalty' or how often he has been called out for not signing if he's such a blue or how his head's been turned and he's not good enough for anything but a bench place. That's all emotional stuff that has come up due to this being publicized.

I also would love for him to sign. And if he doesn't, he should be sold. But the public pressure starting in March, in my opinion, was unnecessary and unprofessional.

Asked on Friday if he was confident the England international would stay, Koeman said: "No.

"I spoke to the player, the board spoke to his agent. I don't know if he won't give an answer. I don't know."

Everton, who will finish the season seventh in the table, are at Arsenal on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday (15:00 BST).

It could be the final game in a Toffees shirt for Barkley, who came through the club's youth academy and has one year left to run on his deal.

"We will go on and we're looking for players in that position. If he stays there will be more competition," added Dutchman Koeman.

"I am not worried because I like to work with players who like to play.

"If you offer a player a new contract, and a good contract, that means you want to keep the player."

Sorry for the long quote, I just want to point out RK was Asked about Ross, he has replied in an open manner and considering most people complain about the cloak and dagger, behind closed door policy at Goodison, I find it surprising that when the manager answers a direct question honestly there is such up roar!

Maybe he should say no comment - then watch the fume as everyone complains we know nothing!

Then there's others who would just like to hear 'he's magnificent', when we all know he hasn't been...

He should take a pay cut to play then.

Is that not exploitation?

I completely, absolutely disagree, and don't think we'll come to an understanding there.

He's an extremely privileged kid. And I sincerely doubt a pay cut is being offered. Not a chance.

Don't think I'll agree with you know. I want the young homegrown players to be grateful of the opportunity they've been given.

Mate, there's a middle ground between replying with "phenomenal" to every question and generally talking out your arse, and openly disclosing sensitive business matters because you want to reply bluntly to every question.

It's just called being professional about certain things. There's room for "no comment" - he doesn't owe the press an answer about confidential business matters.

Look, if he gets asked about a transfer target, he shrugs his shoulders, right? Because it makes professional sense to do so, because you don't want to disclose important or sensitive information? The same thing should have happened here - it's just common sense.

...not having that Tim. These lads might be Evertonians but this is their profession, this is their job. I can understand the feeling of fans just wanting to wear the jersey but the reality is different.

It upsets me any time a homegrown kid wants out. Complete lack of humility and gratitude in modern football. Afraid I can't agree with you on this one although I understand your view. Massive privilege for any scouse kid to play for this club. It upsets me that that's no longer the case.

Players aren't 'given' opportunities. They earn them. It's not a charity.

I agree that he's privileged. I also don't believe it's a pay cut. However, that's where the thinking leads - he 'owes' Everton something....only, he's already seen that out - he owes them the contract they agreed to. That's it. Anything else would be exploitation.

As it should. And if they did it professionally and privately like everyone else, and weirdly like we do with any other player, you wouldn't hear a peep from me. Indeed, if Barkley doesn't sign a contract, I'd be livid if we let him run it down - we should clearly sell this summer.

Again, not the issue. I'm not concerned about Barkley going; I'm concerned at how Koeman has gone about doing it, and by proxy the club, because it's amateur hour stuff.
None of us know what has gone on behind the scenes, how much work and effort has been expended. What we are seeing is final frustration because after all the work, the contract has not been signed. It leaves Koeman and Walsh with a headache because it's another position to recruit for. Ross is gone, and when it happens I'll wish him all the luck of Rodwell and Stones because he's making a huge mistake. Fans elsewhere won't give him half the latitude we do. But the point on Koeman handling of the situation i think is moot.
