Ross Barkley

Mirallas is/was a £70k per week asset, on more than Barkley, a member of the first team squad just like Barkley. It's not like I'm comparing a random youth player to Barkley is it?

Koeman didn't say a word about Mirallas, yet voluntarily banged on about Barkley, over and over and over again. If he were consistent, he could have replied with, "yes, we've got a few players we're going to sit down and talk to, Ross is one, Kevin another - they'll need to sign by the last game of the season or we're getting rid lads LOL!"

Or, you know, simply shut up about anything and everything to do with player contracts altogether, as very clearly should have been the case.
My point isn't about Ron, who I don't particularly like, it's about the difference between the value of Barkley Vs Mirallas. The former being worth, at market, probably three times more than the latter, before even taking into account other factors such as marketability and recognition etc.

The level of risk of letting a m
Mirallas continue without an answer is clearly much different to Barkley. That's before even considering that Mirallas may have very much been clear that he was signing behind closed doors.

I know mate. Shame on Ross. He should be happy working for a handshake, it's Everton ffs the ungrateful little swine. How dare he ask for a wage that he feels is deserving of his talents in comparison to his working peers.

NSNO. In Moyes We Trust.
Ya know, I often disagree with you, but on this I am in complete agreement with you.

Damn that Ross Barkley for working within the economic system he lives in. He should absolutely be volunteering to play for Everton for free so Moshiri can keep more of his money.

Siding with billionaires on finances is weird.

The value doesn't matter. If you single out one employee despite another employee being in the exact same boat, it doesn't matter if one employee is deemed more valuable, you've ultimately singled them out for unfair treatment so you've screwed up.

The value of the asset only matters to the club. If the club feels they need to get rid of the asset at a premium, it is up to them - it is not up for another employee of the club to demonise an employee in public about something, especially when that employee has quite literally done nothing wrong and has served his end of the contract perfectly since it commenced.

He has been offered what he is worth.

This isn't an office environment.

Also I don't see RK demonising. I'd love Barkley to sign, but RK says there's a contract on the table and the player can either sign or we have to sell rather than risk losing for nothing in 6 months. That's simple economics at its base level, and completely truthful.

Only demonising if he says "Barkley's a bad blert lads he's flip flopped all the time and even if he signs he'll be sold anyway for being such a massive Ted and not working for free"

It effectively is. They're paid employees of a business. Only the tangibles of their job duties differ and the amount they are remunerated for their services.

Yes, contracts are sold rather than simply terminated or extended in football, but it's a job. Just because Ross is a footballer doesn't mean that what is effectively his line manager should play by different rules.

I can't even be bothered going in to the hypocrisy of Koeman at Southampton too.
