Ross Barkley

And if I were in any way associated with the club, I would keep my mouth shut and act like a professional adult.

As it is, I'm a moron with a keyboard discussing it because Koeman put it out in public. It is an unprofessional move intended to put pressure on an employee to sign a contract using his fans and supporters and turning his childhood loyalties against him.

It's not something I can agree with.
Spot on.

Mate, there's a middle ground between replying with "phenomenal" to every question and generally talking out your arse, and openly disclosing sensitive business matters because you want to reply bluntly to every question.

It's just called being professional about certain things. There's room for "no comment" - he doesn't owe the press an answer about confidential business matters.

Look, if he gets asked about a transfer target, he shrugs his shoulders, right? Because it makes professional sense to do so, because you don't want to disclose important or sensitive information? The same thing should have happened here - it's just common sense.
The reality is however had he answered 'no comment ' or some other vacuous fudge every one especially the press , would have seen through it , it's what they do best. This tortuous limbo would have existed anyway.
All Ross has to say is Yes or No, I mean what's the problem. As it stands it's hard not to have slight suspicion that the lad isn't deliberately attempting to run his contract down, or why the now ridiculous prevarication?

Read what Koeman said.

"I will speak to the Board tomorrow and we will make a statement about that". Which is very different to the apparent interpretation some seem to have - 'I will speak to the Board and we will make a statement about that tomorrow'.

It's only an interpretation that some are now using to suit themselves since we have heard nothing. It's an old adage. Better to stfu and let people think you are stupid than to open your gob and confirm it.

So, is running down your contract so you can go on a free and taking a massive additional sum that comes from the lack of transfer fee professional? Is it morally right that a Club that has invested very significant resources in nurturing and developing a player should be left high and dry with what has essentially become a depreciated asset because the agent and/or player want to take everything?
That's not something I, or anyone who contributes to our Club in any way shape or form, can agree too.

What were people expecting the statement to say like?

'Everton football club can confirm that Ross Barkley has refused to sign a new contract. We have therefore put him up for sale, taken his locker away and are all farting in his general direction'.

We need to retain some of his value, and can't hang the lad out to dry in case he's still here next season.

I think the opposite is equally valid.

Its el bizaaro world. A clash of egos as both seek to make a name for themselves, one will come out with a black eye that's for sure
