Wind of change, Joey, wind of change.

Don't try to give the club the runaround. New contract to be signed, or you're off. Simple as. And Koeman went public so no one was under any illusion regarding the scenario.

It would appear in the present atmosphere, the tail does not wag the dog...
No,runaround if it's an advantageous contract then on July the 1st explain why he is being transferred- keep it house !
Then explain away rather than before the last game of the season!
With ultimatums from someone who does not deal with contracts !

I actually agree with the ultimatum being put to him and made public. The but I disagree with is we should have had a statement from club by now saying contract withdrawn as not signed and Ross Barkley transfer listed. I personally would have preferred him to stay but no one should be allowed to hold the club to ransom. If he refuses to join any club we agree a few with I would not play him for entire season if he's trying to run contract down. Not playing for a year will hold him back big style.

Agreed. But I can't care less about his progress.
It is a statement about us as a club having integrity.

I agree I shouldn't care about what happens after he leaves us but if he goes backwards it may make people think again about holding us to ransom. We've already got one of his replacements in now we just need some competition and then it may be a seemless transition.

If he signs and stays he needs to get his head down and use the competition of Klaassen to drive him forward and both parties will benefit. The silence from both parties make me think something is still going on behind the scenes but we should have offered him a new contract last summer and all this will he won't br rubbish may have been averted.

In your original post your first line starts "amazing how some fans on here can predict the future" and in you next sentence you say Koeman will be gone in a couple of years
I mustn't have been clear - I was using 'Koeman will be gone in a couple of years' and 'Barkley will only get us 10 bob' as examples of others predicting the future. I have no idea how long he'll stay or how much we'll sell Ross for (or even if he'll be sold).

Nonsense. He took Barkley from being a wreck under Moyes - farmed out to Championship rubbish - and into the England squad.

Some absolute tosh spoken about that relationship. We're going to get a decent fee this summer off Barkley (not that he should be getting sold) which should have been a kings ransom if this Dutchman had been less of a bungler and had him sign a new contract early in the season before he sickened him.
A couple of pages back you said we'd only get 10 bob for him - which is it?

I think its crazy that clubs are expected to offer new contracts with 2 years left on existing ones. Can't say I agree with the Bosman rule at all. It gives way to much power to players. No coincidence that wages started rising rapidly after 1995 as more and more clubs are held to ransom. Don't get me wrong, I feel if the money is there then players should definitely get a sizeable chunk but it has brought about more greed and a stick to beat clubs with

That's EU law for you mate. You can bet when it was drafted it was designed to protect regular Joes from unscrupulous employers, not rich kids and their shadowy vulture entourage - but lawyers couldn't give a stuff about that as long as they see a handsome payday. Any hole's a goal...

Anyway, Barks...

true that! I was referring to Barks with it...I can just hear the agent saying 'look lad, sit tight on the contract, I can get you an extra 40k without risk. they'll never let a local lad go and if they do we have the bosman round the corner.' don't know, but could be

Please name me an other Everton player to be given a public ultimatum to sign a contract before a game ?
You avoid my question covienently?
It's a valid point spoke to my older brother today he has seen the blues since 1956 he can't remember any manager publicly doing that !
Star players who left out of the blue - Dave Hickson - Bobby Collins - Alan Ball all the fans were fuming different days I know but all those players did not want to leave !
It was sad times but no ultimatums just transferred then the juries came out on those players
Gary speed another example rumours were rife this thread Ross has been blamed for many things, Some bile - I reported e.g. wishing long fatal injury in his new club!
If he leaves I wish him future success, and feel we will lose a great player with much more from him to come talent wise!
Until Bosman there was no pressure on clubs to ensure that players didn't run their contracts down, so any comparisons back to 1956 and all of the players you've mentioned aren't relevant.
