Ross Barkley

I'd love to wake up one of these morning to read 'Barkley has fired his agent, signed a new contract, welcomes competition and will play wherever the manager plays him, is determined to make the world cup squad' followed by 'Lukaku has signed a new contract with Everton stating he didn't remember Chelsea being such a plastic club and loves it where he is, determined to help us get CL' followed by 'Lionel Messi and C Ronaldo will line up for the Toffees next year having signed a....' etc etc dreams eh

I've resigned myself to him leaving and have already written off the next two average seasons and am looking forward to 2019/2020 when we get in a top manager and Barkley is brought back.

It's bad that even with all the new investment our best players still want to leave

On a side note does Jimmy Mac still want to go?

The real reason for that sale has never really been explained has it? Plenty of theories, but iirc, no definitive single reason.

Always believed he needed the signing on fee for debts ?
Only theory I've ever heard.

Just to set the record straight, I used to live near Bally in Warsash, Southampton, and drank in his local (The Jolly Farmer, Fleet End Rd). I was lucky enough to have the odd chat with him, and he told me that he knew nothing of the transfer until the morning he was ordered to report to Goodison in Dec 1971. Catterick was waiting for him, and told him that Bertie Mee (the Arsenal Manager) was waiting in the boardroom to sign him. Catterick said he should sign. Bally was gutted, but there was nothing about paying gambling debts or such like. It was simply that the team was struggling and Catterick wanted to build another. He said that he'd bought Alan for £106,000, had the best 5 years of his career, and was now more than doubling his money. It was simply, as he put it, "good business".

My apologies if this is off-topic.

I don't think Ross wants to go, however I think he feels he deserves something that the club isn't offering. That may be money or something else. It's all very odd

Put this in the transfer thread by accident a moment ago ffs lol

Can you imagine the boo's when Everton and his new club meet

Until Bosman there was no pressure on clubs to ensure that players didn't run their contracts down, so any comparisons back to 1956 and all of the players you've mentioned aren't relevant.
As usual you are glossing over the facts - dave hickson was sold against his will - a petition from the fans - alan Ball sold without being asked - nothing to do with Bosman - the fans knew nothing till it was too late - this was a manager giving an ultimatum before the last game of the season - hand on heart if you think this has been handled by our club well ok if we knew nothing and when July the 1st came it was announced that there was a problem and RB may be transfer listed its then been kept in house - not this debarcle of news dirty washing in public affair
