Ross Barkley

Ross is a homegrown player, and i think he has his heart in Everton.

The same can not be said about Koeman, Morishi, walsh, etc, who is on a paycheck, and will only be here for soo long.

Let's treat our own, with some dignity and respect.
Sure it is a hardcore business, but Ross should be special to us.

What you really mean here is

Ross IN

Koeman and 24.82% of the fanbase OUT

no?

Where he stood he was arrested for disturbances very professional - never returned to training, -your fine with that- what's has Ross done apart from being managed badly?
leaving him at home is just RK case of punishment ok I now accept he is going -RK has a record of doing this to good players ask Mane at the other lot who was their star player last season!
The great manager the Catt was a disciplinarian, but he was a consistent the same for every player we had some bad away performances last season - who bore the brunt Ross, Delboy, and Robles all will disappear!- this is not the case -Ross was singled out last season, and given an ultimatum publicly = bad management imo!
Our away form was relegation form too by the way!

Our away form wasn't relegation form mate, we where 4th on home form and 10th on away form last season.

It isn't forcing a player out to say to him he is a squad player not a guaranteed starter but that we'd like him to extend his stay, work hard to improve and earn a place.

That is the situation. He has been told last year's level is not good enough fora team with CL aspirations & that we will be adding competition (Klaassen, Rooney, Sigurdsson). The players who perform best will play. Simple.

Obviously new players often get an initial grace period but Koeman's record at Saints and elsewhere shows that whether a player is a big signing or a holdover will not protect them for long if they play poorly (his run-ins with Tadic being an example).

If we want to compete at a higher level we need this mentality. No room for sentiment. No room for wishful thinking. Ross isn't a kid anymore. He has had lots of chances. He isn't owed a thing and his form has not earned star billing/guaranteed starting role.

His 'local lad' status is irrelevant if we want to win beyond helping with our homegrown quota. He'll face the same situation at any other big club. A fresh start/initial grace period will only protect him for so long unless he improves.

More like, Ross in, Koeman and the fanbase loosen up a little, don't be soo hard.

Nobody is being hard on him.

He has every right to make his own decisions.

He could've done with letting the club know though...

Why are you treating Ross like some kind of vulnerable child?

He's an extremely well played professional capable of making decisions (well, sometimes not very quickly).

If he leaves it's down to him not signing this deal. That's his call, and all the power to him, but we (as in, the club) need to know what he's doing.

Hopefully he signs.

We've (reportedly - though from the best journo there is for Everton) offered Ross a deal worth more than £100k per-week mate.

It's not like we're asking him to play for free.
I know. Perhaps there lies the problem. Everyone thinks that £100k per-week, should solve every problem in life. Perhaps he need more time, to reflect and make a hole hearted decition.

I don't know why i treat him like that. Perhaps i just think something is wrong, since he has not signed. Just a bit worried for the man, that is all

I don't want him to go, but he's putting (or him and his agent are) massive pressure on himself here, and pressure he doesn't need at this stage of his career.
If he stays, with an obviously improved contract, he's got to deliver, and fans who've turned against him, or were never convinced in the first place, are going to give him a hard time if he doesn't progress further ..and rightly so!
Of course, if he does leave, that's not our problem anymore, but he's not helping himself here.
Anyway, I do want him to stay, and hope everyone gives him a chance if he does, but you have to do the business now Ross.

I have no way of knowing what the situation with Berkley is but I tend to believe that he thought Everton were going to do an Everton this window and bring in a few ordinary players and loose Lukaku and have much the same impact as we did last year. He was, unfairly in my opinion, singled out by Koeman for special criticism last season but I also believe that the manager was putting down a challenge to him to step up and be the dominant player we all want him to be. Looks like that has backfired.
Given this Ross has put himself into the market place as an outstanding talent with bags of potential and the market place has said "you are not as well regarded in the rest of the country as you are at Goodison".
We now find ourselves in a position that Spurs see him as a squad player who isn't worth our valuation or lesser clubs who can offer him a starting position also won't or can't meet that valuation.
Best for everyone is for Ross' agent to come out and make a statement saying how impressed he is with Everton's commitment to win trophies and his client wants to be part of the new era at the club. He then signs the contract and gets his head down and fulfils all the promise he has shown.

Please stop or I'll have to report this post for being far too sensible amongst a sea of hand wringing and knee jerking.

it didn't backfire in the sense he improved after Christmas, though.

And the thing is, he wasn't singled out for criticism at all. There was a huge deal made of it as Koeman was pretty blunt. He needed to be more productive etc. But Koeman always qualified that by saying so did all the other attackers.

Did McCarthy get singled out for criticism as well, then?
