Ross Barkley

I hope he stays. I think he's been getting better year on year and with players like Schneiderlin, Gueye and Davies around him, he has started to kick on.

For 50m and 150k per week, there wont be many takers as we have seen. But if that price drops to 15-20m, even at 150k per week, we'll see a lot more clubs take an interest in him.

You can argue he's been badly advised and should have signed the contract etc. cos he seems in limbo right now. But if his actions are lowering his tfr fee, and as such attracting interest from clubs such as Chelsea or Man Utd as is being reported, then you can see what his agent is trying to do. Footballers are confident and have people constantly telling them how good they are, it's rare they think they wont start if they have a big move.

£15m is plain daft

I believe I'm right in saying that we would be entitled to a development fee if he left next summer and given the fact he has over 20 England caps and 150 Premier League appearances, you're probably talking £10m or so

We're not getting £50m, clearly, but we derive very little benefit for selling him for £15m, so either we meet in the middle somewhere or we may as well just keep him and take the £10m or so next summer

We signed Keane for £25m rising to £30m and he only had 12 months left on his deal. I would sell Barkley at this point for a similar figure.

we wouldn't get a development fee, he'd be 24.

But we won't sell for £15m or anywhere near that.

Yep, sorry you're right - I thought because we had made a written contract offer before he turned 24 that we would be entitled to compensation, but that's not the case

A Player aged 24 years or over as at 30 June is entitled (subject to Regulation 41) to sign for any Club of his choice without restriction on the expiry of his contract on or after that date without payment of any Compensation Fee.

Ross has shown his lack of consistency at Everton, I can't see Mourinho, Conte or Pochettino allowing the luxury he gets at EFC. AT Everton he was a relatively big fish in a relatively small pond, he won't be that at any of the clubs purported to be interested in him.

Look at players that have left .....who has done well?

so far, Rooney, Fellaini and Lescott - pretty much everyone else's career has gone downwards. So the odds are in favour of the argument that he will fade to mediocrity elsewhere. Ross is a really good player, not sure he would even be in the current new first XI if he signed up. All managers want consistent 8-9 out of 10 performance, not the occasional 10 amidst a rack of 6s.
Depends very much how far back you're going really, but just off the top of my head in my time as a fan I think Speed, Barmby, Materazzi, Dacourt and Arteta would argue that their careers picked up after leaving Everton. That's just the big names who we didn't necessarily want to leave too, there are obviously a number of players who were run of the mill pros finishing mid table with us who went elsewhere to do the same type of thing with another club rather than disappearing downwards.

Regarding the first point, I actually think you're hitting the nail on the head. I think he's been indulged too much at Everton, and we've maybe tried to make him into something he isn't. To me, rather than being a Roy of the Rovers style matchwinner, Ross is much better as a sort of continuity player in midfield, getting on the ball and moving it round, picking up bits of space and trying to work with it. I think sometimes we ask too much of him in terms of creativity and the expectation gets too much for him so he may actually flourish as a small fish in a big pond.

I'd be shocked if Spurs paid him 150K a week

It'd blow up their entire wage structure, there'd be anarchy in that dressing room, especially as he's not a guaranteed starter

I can only assume that, should this rumour be true, Poch really rates him and has whispered sweet nothings in his ear, hence why Ross would be so desperate to leave

They won't. He and his agent knows they won't.

It's a story taking what his agent probably wants from us, and making the assumption he'll want that at Spurs. Hence the echo's response.

Let's hope so, because at the end of the day, Barkley hasn't improved in 3 years and has probably peaked as a footballer. Him going to Spurs and causing internal strife would be superb business.

It would seem logical to assume that if they were blowing their wage structure for him he would be a guaranteed starter.

Yeah, he's linked to the below clubs because he's utterly gash mate.

Tottenham – 4/6
Man United – 6/1 (from 12/1 yesterday)
Chelsea – 7/1
Arsenal – 10/1
Man City – 16/1

Our fans are ridiculous...

Who is linking him? lazy journalists or the bookies? You really think those clubs see Barkley as a starting player for them? Ask the fans of them sides what they think. The best offer any of those sides seems too of offered so far is 15m, which speaks for itself

Yes, sure mate, he's going to Newcastle and West Ham then.

He was really injured and all the bed pissers haven't a clue what to do. Oh the drama...
The answer to that young T, are these
tena.webp

Why does he have to go out to the press? No one's interviewed him like they did to Lukaku who took it on himself to say he wanted to leave.

Don't forget, Rom stewed on a £140k a week contract offer for a year, 99% gonna sign and all that.

People (rightly) were annoyed at Rom for constantly giving interviews intimating that he was bigger than Everton. Ross on the other hand has never said a word against the club or barely said anything. Yet he gets slated. If he wants to move on, and he has his reasons, fair play. He's been here 7 years, this isn't like Rooney leaving right before he blew up (although that could come later for Ross), but regardless people are mad at Roscoe for not being a Ballon D'Or finalist apparently.
